Hi folks, I'm new to the forums, but old to firearms. I've been around them my entire life. Unfortunately I had to sell my rifle and handgun to pay some bills. I'm finally getting enough income to purchase a new rifle. I just bought a Savage 93R17 which is a great target rifle. I bought it used and saved enough money that I've decided I'm going to build a rifle. Before anyone asks, I am an amatuer metal worker, and my shop is well equipped with lathes, mills, and that sort of tooling.
I'm going to be building a bolt action target/varmint rifle in the .223 . I'm basing my measurements off of my Savage and the measurements in walter B. Muellers' "Building a Single-shot, Falling-block Rifle Action" . However I need some help from anyone who can assist me. I'm looking for some numbers on your rifles, especially bolt lengths and action thicknesses. I would truly appreciate any info you can give me, and be assured, I will post pictures upon completion.
