I'm sure getting excited about the upcoming hunt! Fall colors, crisp cool air, camping with family!

Just curious what kind of animal you'll be hunting and with what kind of firearm/ load?

I'm hunting mule deer and elk in Utah with a T/C Thumbhole Omega .50 cal muzzleloader (stainless laminate) w/ a Nikon red-dot scope. Using 270g Powerbelt Platinum bullets pushed by 130g of 777.

Edited to add: Also Blue grouse w/ a T/C Contender in .410 and coyotes w/ a DPMS AR-10 in .308

Good luck to all, be safe, obey the law, and respect and enjoy the wilderness!

Grizz, we're not too far apart in our locations and hunting opportunities.

I'll be hunting Mule deer or whitetail deer (depending on which gets in my crosshairs first! :) ), elk, and carrying a Black bear tag and a Mountain lion tag. Target of opportunity, you might say.

Also Blue grouse, pheasants, quail, and chukar. Might do ducks but am not sure yet.

Good luck to you.

i'll be chasing whitetails in s.d.'s black hills w/ a custom mauser chambered to 8 mauser, zeiss scope.

antelope on the west side w/ a remington 700 bdl in 25-06, leupold scope, and harris bipod.

mulies on the west side of the state w/ a remington 700 adl in 300 win mag, leupold scope, harris bipod.

whitetails on the east side w/ a remington 700 lvsf in 7-08, leupold scope, and harris bipod.

and, i'll wrap up w/ whitetails on the east side w/ a bear bow, easton arrows, and muzzy broadheads.

if i punch every tag, that will be 9 deer and 2 antelopes. i usually get that many tags and stop at 5 or 6 deer, + the goats depending on our freezer capacity, though.

I usually pursue geese and pheasants, and that is done w/ a remington 870. i don't do any other small game hunting, though...

good luck hunters!

I'll be taking my daughter to a youth pheasant hunt or three (Oct, Nov and Jan or Feb). I'm also setting up a pheasant hunt at a preserve for the folks at work in early Dec. Not to worry, I'll get them out to my club and teach them the Four Rules, etc. and give them some training shooting Trap.

I'll get some time in at Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie behind the bow for deer. Probably take my son (5yo) with me and just wander around to see what we can see.

The week before the week of T-day is Deer camp, that'll be both Bow (deer and turkey) and Shotgun (deer only).

Depending on if I have an archery tag left, I'll probably go down to Midewin again in Dec/Jan.

Then there's Turkey season in April/May.

I missed out on bear this year so it'll be deer with 44 DW revo/ squirrel with geco (german) 22 rifle and maybe a few grouse with the 870.

Mule deer hunting with a PSE G-Force bow. Also have a week long rifle hunt at the end of Oct and will be using a Savage 110 in 30-06. Load is a 165gr Sierra Gameking over IMR 4350.

For birds I am using 1 1/8 oz #7 1/2 shot over HS-6 in a 12 guage. Most of the times I'm using a Winchester 1400 autoloader but am also going to take out the Ithaca 37 a couple of times.

Coyote hunting is a 22-250 with a 50gr V-Max bullet over Varget.

One last item I use is a Ruger 10/22 on jackrabbits.

doves and rabbits with the citori
squirrels get the 22 or the 17
deer start with the knight, then get the a-bolt in 270 win o r the gp100 in 357 mag
turkey's get 3 inch's of #5's outta the 870
i LOVE fall:p

I'll be going after whitetail deer with my Savage 7mm WSM. I might try for elk, but I'm not really excited about them like I am deer. I'll also be hunting turkeys with a Win 1300 and 3" #5s. Probably varmints also, with my NEF .223.

Next is elk antlerless tag in 3 days, with the Rem 300Rum and the Marlin 444. Did I mention the 2 point point mule deer I got 2 days ago with my Tikka 30-06?:D Hee hee.

I can't stand it! 9 more days until the season opens!

This is the first year EVER that I have an uninterupted hunting season. In years past I had school or work constraints that limited me to driving back and forth type hunting.

THIS YEAR: I have two weeks off scott-free for mule deer hunting and 6 days off scott-free for elk hunting!!!!! They're both muzzleloader seasons, but hey, I'll take what I can get!

We've got all the gear already at our camp (a 18' x 8.5' enclosed cargo trailer)on our 100 acres in N Utah. We're the only property owners hunting a 500 acre chunk of private land (adjacent to national forest), and the area is gated off, posted, and remaining quiet until the season starts. My fellow property owners hunt different seasons (2 of them archery, and 1 rifle), and we've all agreed to stay out of the area during each other's seasons.

I can't wait. I can't wait to wake up at 3:30 opening day. I can't wait for the 1.5 hour drive from my house to the property opening morning (coffee along the way, of course). I can't wait to quietly pull up to the top of our land and hop out of the Jeep. I can't wait to take a deep breath of autum; crisp, cold air and get a bering on wind direction. I can't wait to briefly discuss strategy with my dad who's flying down from Alaska for the hunt.

For me, hunting is what makes living worth while. I've gone through a divorce (wife didn't like Utah!), went back to school, and am starting to rebuild my life. Hunting is a tradition for us, it's about bonding, it's about good times, it's about family.

Anyway, I hope nobody minds my excitement.

Again, good luck to all and enjoy every second of the season!

We have had some real crisp morning here in Kansas. Can't wait.
Nov 11th is opening day for deer in Nebraska. Will be in the Pine Ridge area looking for Mulies. I will have my Remington 700 mountain gun in 30-06. 150 grain core locks are my ammo of choice now. I have a range finder and good pair of binocs that are both water proof. I just hope the fire they had up there did not hurt the deer to bad.

Then my Kansas deer hunt starts November 29th. Use the same equipment as above.

Also in Kansas is the fall Turkey season. Use my Mossberg 500 12 gauge. 3" #4 shot Winchester Supreme Turkey load.

I would be happy to fill both deer tags and one of the turkeys...we will see.

Fall Turkey is up on the first - must go camping & take the 1300.
Wouldn't mind filling a bow tag again this season.
And another with ugmo (ugly as sin m88 smoothie) or the 700.
Once game seasons wind down coyote is open for a while.

Im taking my wife one her first hunt this fall. For the deer she will be using a Winchester 70 in 270 130 gr Nosler ballistic tip in front of 47 grains of 4064. And fer the quail she has a SxS 410 that I will be finding out what it shoots good in a few weeks.

one shot one kill

I'll be hunting deer out in Eastern Utah next month. I can't wait to get out to hobble through the ice and mud. It will be cold and dirty- I love it.

I'll take a Mauser action scoped 30-06 as my primary rifle. A 8MM Mauser sporter will be be backup gun. A Russian M44 will be my backup to my backup.

I can't wait, I can't wait, I can't wait. Heehee!

I have already taken doves this year. I used Single Shot Shotguns in 20 ga, 28ga and .410.

IF...big IF, My schedule allows, I hope to

-Assist some kiddos and such on more dove hunting.
-Assist some kiddo and such on small game, using single shot .22 rifles and Single shot shotguns
[ Moms/ single ladies using Shotguns from 1100 in 28 ga, 20, and 870s in 28ga, 20 and 12...and others]
-My personal bit is to take small game with handgun. Just a bone stock Model 18 or Semi-Auto .22. I also like to use Dedicated .38spl K frames for Rabbits, and Bone Stock Gov't of 1911 in 45ACP for big swamp rabbits with 185 or 200 grainers .

NEF Youth 20 ga single shot gets toted on property. Not really hunting, just totin, watching dawgs, and walking the property. If the pot needs filling, I carry pellet and slugs...

Not about me - about the experince, passing forward and taking it all in.

I will be hunting whitetail deer with a Bear Recurve, cedar arrows and muzzy broadheads. I will then be using a Rossi .50 muzzleloader with 250 Hornady XTP hollowpoints in a sabot, and then a Winchester 94 trapper in .44mag finishing it all off with a return to the Bear Recurve in Jan. This will be the first year I have ever had every weekend free to hunt with. I am actually buying a truck this saturday as a hunting rig and have already started shooting all the different weapons I will be using. I have been on one weekend long scouting trip and have another lined up for next Sun. I am more excited about for this season than I have been in a long time.

Oregon Deer and Elk

Western deer tag - unsuccessful Easter draw, drat
Coastal Elk, second season
I purchased a bear and cougar tag also for opportunity targets and an excuse to see Eastern Oregon againg this year.

All firearms hunts, 300WSM 150-180 grain bullets.

Whitetails- I havent made my mind up between my old Marlin (Im looking forward to using the new Hornady Leverevolution), and my Remington 700 .30-06 loaded with Remington Cor-Lokt 165 gr.

Hogs- we use dogs, all I bring with me is a pistol (Sig 220) and a knife. Half the time , by the time I get to the pig the dogs have already killed it anyway.

Grouse / Pheasant season - Browning Sweet 16 A5
Deer Season (Shotgun) - Browning Sweet 16 A5
Deer (Muzzleloading) - CVA .50 Cal sidelock percussion

Just don't tell the wife that I'm only using 2 guns this year....

It's that time

I couldn't figure out why my fingers were getting itchy.

1) Small game w/ T/C .22LR Classic, or T/C Contender pistol in .22LR

2) Whitetail w/ SA M1A "Loaded"

3) Russian boar w/ SA M1A "Loaded"

4) Black bear hopeful for Spring 2007.
