I am back at trying to find an inexpensive alternative for the expensive projectiles used in 7.62X39 reloading. I tried the offerings from Hornaday and PPU they worked OK but cost a lot. I posted on here about it and was advised not to try the Ranier or Berries plated due to low vel needed to keep bullets from coming apart. I finally got some X-treme plated bullets due to their even thicker plating. Supposed to be as thick as the plating on Gold Dots. We will see.:scrutiny: Anyone tried these bullets in your SKS/AK?? Did you like how they shot?? I will be loading some up in a couple weeks and try them out regardless to see for myself. If they don't pan out there I will shoot them up in my 303 BR as light plinking loads.

they're still plated instead of jacketed.. still need to keep the velocities low. there are plenty of people here that have shot .308 out of the .311 bore on the sks with no issues what so ever.

Really. I've been using the Berry's 125 grain plated .310 bullet for a while now, and it's not the bullet - it's the barrel. Loaded to lead velocities they tend to lose plating coming out of my SA vz-58 barrel, which my gunsmith thinks may have a tiny burr by the gas port.

However, loaded to mid range JACKETED velocities in my 527M, I get groups like these. :)

I am no rifleman, that's for certain, as every Internet commando out there can outshoot me, :), but the bullets work great for me.

Tell you what, PM me an addy and I'll SEND YOU some of the Berry's to try out, free, gratis, no charge. etc.

No, not recovered in the backstops we use, sorry.

I happen to have a few extra of these bullets, and I do like them, plus I like the company, so why not share? :D
I posted the vz-58 results because obviously they aren't perfect for everything - the vz-58 shoots jacketed just fine. But they really work well in my CZ 527M, and they worked well in a friends SKS as well. :)

I like the company, and very well could be using their stuff for my handguns...

Just wondering how the jackets held up... maybe we can get box o truth to test them out for plating separation at mid - higher pressures.

Before I even checked your location, I said "that looks like AZ"... I was in Sierra Vista, stationed at Huachuca for about 5 years, where abouts are you?

Casa Grande area, that's the Elzy Pearson memorial range just south of CG - best free outdoor range I've ever used. :)
I've been using the Berry's plated handgun bullets for sometime, working through a large supply of the 124 grain 9mm PHPs right now. The latest ones are the new hollow base round nose in 9mm, extra long bearing surfaces, and they really are good. I load to mid jacketed range with no difficulty.

I miked the the X-treme bullets and found them to be in the middle of the .311-.312 marks on my dial caliper. The reason I got them in the first place was the claim that they were really heavily plated, more so than the berries were. Now I have to load some up and try them. This is always the best part I think.:D I should have enough time this weekend I would think with the extra day and all.

I've pushed Berry's .308, 110gr to 1300-1400 fps.
It's fairly accurate & no ill effects noted.
(they also have 110 gr .311 bullets)

The pistol/handgun bullets you shouldn't push to more than 1200 fps.

But the rifle bullets can be pushed harder.
I've seen somewhere to keep it under 1800 fps.
I "think" that might have been on Berry's website.
