I was having trouble keeping a mainspring housing still so I could pound out the lanyard loop retaining pin

(see related thread here: http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?p=3182700#post3182700 )

So I finally decided to try something new--plumber's putty!

Slapped a big glob right on my workbench, and pushed the MSH right down into it. Worked like a charm--held it firm, didn't cause any damage, and wiped right off the MSH when I was done.

(I suppose any dense clay would work, and originally started looking to see if my son had any, but settled on the plumber's putty when I couldn't find any.)

Best thing is that it will easily mold itself to any shaped part, and I can re-use it as many times as I want--the stuff doesn't really dry out either.

Thought it was kind of cool...
