I can have two handguns and I have $1,000 to spend. I have narrowed it down to a surplus cz 82 and one of these. Between the two I want to cover home defense, shtf (yes, I said it. :D), concealed carry, and range/general outdoor use for fun.

1. used israeli mk II browning hi power
2. Walther pps

But I also need bullets and holsters. And I am getting the walther used and won't pay more than $550.

Honestly there is no way you could get me to pay more for a PPS than any BHP. The BHP is a perfect 9mm. Perfect for carry. Perfect for home defense. Perfect for the range.

JMB & Dieudonné Saive knew what they were doing. :D

The PPS has only one advantage and thats as a ccw weapon. Past that id take the HP.
If you aren't gonna ccw with the CZ id say go with the PPS unless you can handle the size of the other 2 guns.

Das, don't know what you are talking about, the PPs is only a little narrower than the 82, the two are very close except that the 82 is double stacked and there for fat (and comfortable) in the grip.

For myself, between the two, I would pick the Hi-Power. I've handled the PPS and I just don't like the way it feels; like it's almost too flat and squared off. The Hi-Power fits me just right, with it's grip contours fitting into my hand perfectly.

Nothing wrong with old fashioned (P-35 and M1911 come to mind), just as long as they work. After that, it's more a matter of personal preference and ergonomics (at least it is to me).

I suggest an alternate reality.

Get the HP AND a .22 conversion kit so you can have the inexpensive shooting of a 22 with the pleasure of a fine HP.

Can you just get the HP alone and spend the extra getting it slicked up by a good 'smith?

Call me biased, what can I say...
