I finally found one of those "cheap" police trade in revolvers. Everyone on the internet seems to know where they are, but they always just sold the last one when I get there. But last night I found this one for a price that I was surprised by (and willing to pay). It's got some worn blue, a few scratches, and the checkering on the grips is about worn smooth, but the mechanicals all check out. I just happened to have a Harrington & Richardson 22 revolver that I didn't care too much for, so a trade was easy.

Colt Official Police. 38 Special. Made in 1950 I'm told. Note the worn place on the back of the grip. I can just picture some LEO's arm resting there.

Sorry for the poor picture, but I left my good camera in my truck that my friend has borrowed.

I... every great once in a while... stumble on a good deal. But it is rare.

That looks like a great find.

Enjoy it.

I'm one of those guys- I too have a 4in colt official police, mine was made a few years after yours- 53 or 54 I think. Mine has very little original bluing left on the barrel, but the receiver still has a good bit. I got it OTD for 165, and couldn't get my money out fast enough. I love mine. Enjoy it!

PS yes I like the ugly camo grips- they are nice and comfy, and they allow me to keep the original colt grips in good condition
