Several months ago I got it in my head,,,
That I liked the looks and idea of a new model S&W 317 Kit Gun.

So that's what I was looking for at the Oklahoma City gun show this morning,,,
Overall the show was a disappointment as there weren't many revolvers,,,
And the ones I did see were priced way too high for me.

One gentleman did have the exact revolver I was looking to see,,,
But it was used and he was asking an outrageous $775.00,,,
I mentioned that MSRP for a new one was less at $759.00,,,
He just shrugged and said "try to find a new one for less".

So on the way home I stopped at The Evil Pawn Shop,,,
Long story short I have a brand new one on order,,,
The firm price will be $650.00 out-the-door.

Then I made the mistake of wandering over to his revolver counter,,,
That Charter Arms Bulldog in .44 Special was still sitting there,,,
I had $350.00 in gun show money available to spend today,,,
30 minutes later I was putting it in the trunk of my car,,,
$298.00 out-the-door after my usual $1.00 discount.

I justified it by having two boxes of .44 Special ammo at home,,,
Isn't it a sin to have ammo and no gun to shoot it out of?

So that's all of my gun buying for the next long while,,,
I just hope I don't have to wait too long for that S&W revolver.

Nice pick up. I bought mine because I had some .44 Spl brass at home I had gotten in a deal. I have never regretted it.

Good job!

I had not considered your particular approach for developing a water-tight reason for buying a gun, but I must say I like it. I will add it to my arsenal :)

Congratulations and I think we all can find a reason to buy a gun if we spot something that we really like.

She's a bit rough,,,
But she shoots well enough,,,
The only problem is she kills at both ends.

I put 24 rounds of 240 grain SMJ-HP downrange,,,
Off of a rest I got a decent group at 25 yards,,,
Seems to be shooting 5" high at that range.

I'll not make and adjustments,,,
Except to aim lower.

This! I see what you did there.

I'm sorry but you got two new revolvers and there's something evil associated with it???

Sounds more like pure wheelgun goodness to me!

Hey! You got a good Bulldog! The barrel shroud won't fly off of that gun because there isn't one.
Hopefully the front sight will stay in place and the ejector rod doesn't fall out

To me, guns are tools, and if I set out to get a tackhammer, I don't think I'll getting a sledge. :)

Many is the time I've gone into a tool store,,,
And came out with something I didn't actually go in for,,,
I just accept the "I might have a use for that someday" thought.

I came to the conclusion years ago,,,
I like buying guns almost as much as I like shooting them.

I like owning matching pairs of guns,,,
One chambered in rimfire and the other in centerfire,,,
I have a 4" Charter Arms Pathfinder in .22 LR that needed a buddy. :D

This is my eighth matching pair.

Congratulations on your new purchase, sir.

I had a feeling you would get it, eventually... :)

[EDIT: Actually - congrats on both your new purchases. I re-read the original post more carefully.]

Hello tubeshooter,,,

Congratulations on your new purchase, sir.

I had a feeling you would get it, eventually...

You know me too well sir.

I was truly hoping someone would buy it before I saved up the cash,,,
But there it was and me with disposable cash in my pocket.

The Evil Pawn Shop Guy chuckled at me,,,
He knew the first time I saw it that I'd probably be her new owner.

But hey, I'm a single professional male,,,
My only dependents are a Maine Coon cat and his buddy,,,
If I can't buy something "just because" why am I going to work at all. :D

Hold on. You mean to say that revolvers can have the infamous shoulder thing that goes up!??!?!?!

19-3Ben, I had one in 1987 that fell apart to the point it just wasn't worth fixing anymore after some 700-800 rounds of warmer than factory handloads.
I had a .357 Tracker about the same time that took even fewer rounds to dissemble...
My buddies EAA Windicator .357 has lasted longer than those two Charter Arms revolvers did and he managed to kill a Taurus M66 .357 with his crazy handloads.

We have to have a reason to buy a gun??
I've been going about it all wrong.

We need a reason?

We have to have a reason to buy a gun??
I've been going about it all wrong.

It's all about playing mind games with ones own self,,,
I'm single with a professional income,,,
My only dependents have fur.

So when I see something I want to purchase,,,
I don't have to convince myself that it's worth the cash outlay,,,
I simply have to remind myself that I answer only to myself and my cats.

In all seriousness I attempt to curb any impulse buying,,,
I saw this Charter Bulldog in the Evil Pawn Shop several weeks ago,,,
The only thing I needed to do was wait a few weeks to see if the "want" wore off.

But having a reasonable rationale such as owning ammunition for a gun,,,
Well that gives us something fun to discuss on the forums. ;)
