I Know It's Czech but the CZ52 Looks Like It Was Design By Citroen?

I don't understand why the French don't get more respect around here? My MAS 49/56 is a wonderful rifle! The seller assured me that it was never fired... and only dropped once. ;)

P.S. I love my CZ52 too!

I first noticed the CZ vz 52 pistol in WHB Smith "Small Arms of the World" 1966. Very intriguing gun. Very interesting cartridge. But unobtainable in 1967.

Then almost 40 years later I saw one at a gunshow for $129 (pistol, holster, two magazines, cleaning rod, lanyard). I was reloading .312" bullets in 7.62x25 cartridges for a worn-out C96 Mauser and needed a way to generate once fired cases for reloading. There was my poodle snouted solution: a CZ 52 pistol! And an excuse to own a gun that had intrigued me for 40 years.

I too first saw the CZ52 in the Smith book! I never dreamed I would someday be able to buy one cheap!
Unfortunately, I found I didn’t much care for it, after I shot it a few times.
I found I much prefer the tt33 Tokarev for my 7.62x25 fun. I got rid of the CZ, and still have a Romanian Tok along with a spam can of Romanian ammo.

I never could get over the clipped grips, the depth of the grip frame, the number and quality of the small parts, and the suspicion that when the cheap ammo ran out the party was over. I like CZs generally, but couldn't like the CZ52.

I do think it’s fun to shoot. I just wish commercial tok ammo was cheaper or surplus tok ammo was still a thing.

No worries. Opinions are like ……. everyone has one. Their opinions matter, I listen to all. Your matters most and you’ve sparked my interest in the pistol, ugly as it is.

The 2cv Citroen was a very reliable low cost car, as a matter of fact they are still running some model 70-80's in South America. The CZ 52 had a few flaws (brittle firing ping, chunky and other issues rollers eating the slides) but a solid pistol.
Never cut me enough to have one, even in hiper demand were almost no options, heavy, low capacity and huge for side.
If were to have a firearm from the other side of the iron curtain, It would be the CZ 82-83 on those times.
Btw, Makarov.com was a great site for the time full of great info as well as Surplusrifle.com

CZ82 was my favorite Commie pistol I have owned by far, great to shoot, well constructed. The paint situation
was abysmal but there are still a few out there where the paint hasn't begun chipping off yet.

I had a CZ50. Loved the lines, it's a great design. But I didn't enjoy the expense, scarcity and wimpy output of the .32 ACP/7.65 Browning cartridge
so I sold it off.

I like mine a lot. The slide looks like something from a science fiction movie, and the 7.62x25 is no slouch. The S&B ammo I had at the range last time was pretty hot. After a few shots I had people wandering up to check out what was making all the noise.

Back in the day, the 9x19 conversion barrels were pretty commonplace.
It was almost more "well behaved" using 9x19.

I’ve been looking for a 9mm conversion barrel for mine for a couple of years now casually. No dice so far. Why I didn’t order one years ago when they were seemingly everywhere, I’ll never know…
