Hey guys.

Just setting here catfishing and thought I'd ask for some advice on scope. I know this probly is the wrong place but you guys are more responsive than the great guys. I just make the jump onto kimber 8400 tactical territory and have some money left over for glass (1200.00) I found a leupold mk4 6.5-20 m1 tmr on sale for 1046.00 but can't help but wonder what are my options? I plan to use the gun for benchrest out to 400+ and the occasional cyote hunt on my farm I've already looked at night force and couldent find a deal. Any other options I need it to adjust accurately and hold true when its over my shoulder.

than the great guys

Ummm, that would be the members here.... They are all great folks! :D

I don't have the experience to answer your question. If you'll hit the search key, I'll bet there's lots of threads on scopes. :)

I'd consider spending a slight bit more and going with a Nightforce over the Leupold. Or step up to a US Optics or Schmidt and Bender. No comparison between those and the Leupold.

wow dident even consider that one. but for now 1200 is the cap, there only so much i can get away with for now. i might just hold out for extra cash

geno,

have a NF 5.5x22x56 also, except on a 338LM. designated cross county rifle. feel same WAY overpowered for close work. for a semiauto 308, i'd even rather go with a 1x4 than the 2x10, as the chances one's battle rifle will be needed at distances where 5x is too much are even better. the closer to a true 1x on the low end the better for stereo target acquisition.

just my $0.02

Agreed. The other issue with the 5.5-22 is they parallax can adjust only down to 50 yards. Closer than 50 get out-of-focus. The 3.5-15 adjusts to 25 yards. For closer distances, I have my red dot sights. I actually bought all 3 NFs for shooting distances ranging from 500 to 1,000 yards. The 3.5-15 will work dandy on my Wea Mark V .300 Win Mag for deer season. We usually fire at ranges from 300 to 500 yards (wide-open bean fields).

Interesting, the MK4's are excellent scopes. There is a reason the M110 has them mounted on top. S&B is way out of the question if 1200 is the cap. Have nothing to say bad about NF because they are excellent as well, but you can't really go wrong with a MK4 either.

Night force is the best out. If you can maby spend another $200 you would be the happyest. Dont settel for second best, If you are shooting agenst others using nightforce and you dont have one youl be sorry.

Don't know if NF is the best, but it is the best I can afford. There are a whole lot of folks willing to cough-up close to $3,000 for a Premiere Reticle. <<shudders>> There must be a reason.

That said, I went with NF over Leupold, because I have been told they are more rugged. At the range, the fellas who have Mark 4s prefer my NFs, because of the more defined adjustments (the feel), and they assert better return-to-zero.

In the end, it is merely a tool. A tool that will help me get retribution on woodchucks for me having stepped into a woodchuck hole last month and breaking my fool-leg! <<Pay-back' on the way, Woodrow Woodchuck!!>>

thanks for all the help guys, i ended up going with the mk4 leupold, i would have loved to have gotten a nf but i just couldent find one in my budget for what i wanting out of a scope.

Man, that's too bad. 2.5-10X32s are pretty common on the used market, and they haven't been out long enough to be too used. Anyway, the scope that you got is a nice one too.

Enjoy it.

The MK4 is a fantastic entry level long range scope. My brother runs one on his custom built 308. It is like looking out a 20x open window. Crystal clear. His is the Mil Dot version with the front focal plane. I only call it an entry level long range because the S&B scopes are pretty much the top of the long range optics. But you can not go wrong with the MK4.

gus,
im with you on that, i would love to get my hands on a s&b but ill go the leupold rout for now. by the by guys just got back from the range with the new kimber, shoots like a dream!! ill post later with pics
