ONE rifle

ONE rifle is only ONE rifle away from NO rifles. Get two.

In fact, aren't you going to be making money in your life? Arent you going to be a little better established each year? One rifle? What part of GUN NUT don't you understand?

Better get a Swiss K31 now, because they are cheap and evaporating. Of course you need an AR. Every American does. And an M1 or/and a 1903. While you are at it, the CMP is going to start selling M1 Carbines in May. Let no caliber be left behind! And you can't resist a Swede M38. You can score one on Gunbroker for 300 or less. Might as well watch the K98s and Krags go by at the same time. Sporterized Krags are less than 300. And the real deal: Japanese WWII rifles are dirt cheap. 200 or LESS for an Arisaka. (the 6.5 carbines are incredible deals, and CUTE. Cute gunz- usually under 160.) Speaking of cheap: where is your Mosin? I'd panhandle another 100 bucks and get the Finn Nagant, but that's just me. An M44 will do. Plus there are the Brit WWII rifles. Better check AIMSurplus. You can get a 308 Brit for lunch money. Don't you want to be an international kind of guy? It's the interconnected age! I think there is a Peruvian 7.65 going for less than 200 right now on Auction Arms. Yeah that's a weird caliber. So what? Reloading is in your future.

And don't forget: God wants you to have a Glock 19.

Don't give me any more of this "one gun" stuff. YOU are responsible for arming yourself and all decendants. Better get a Liberty Safe and pack it.

For both hunting and SHTF .308 for just SHTF .223.

.223 is better generally for putting bullets on bodies but .308 is more versatile for hunting imho.

My choice in caliber is .308. With it, I can take on both man and beast. Big game, varmits, self-defense. :)

Edit: Actually, I'm a .30-06 kind of guy.

I HATE SA'S NEW SITE!!!:cuss: :cuss: :cuss: :cuss: :cuss:
very sorry for the random rant but I can't find anything on that site (including tech specs, you know the real info).
thanks for this thread, I am in a similar situation, this helped. :p

Put me in the two rifle camp. One gun wolt be superlative both functions. a .223 AR ( my choice ) and a bolt gun in a hunting caliber are within your budget and you won't have to live with a compromise. Essex

People been waiting for SHTF since over thirty years back. I'd bet the odds are a lot higher for going deer hunting. :D

For deer hunting, the .308 is far more all-around useful than any .223 ever thought of being.
