I think CTD sent the wrong slugs.

I ordered some Brenneke K.O.'s and got them. On the box it says "Shotgun Sabots with a punch". I ordered rifle. but underneath, it says "5 shotgun Slug cartirdges for Smoothe & Rifled barrels". The ballistics on the back say 1600 FPs so I'm guessing it's rifled but these look a lot different than other Rifled slugs I've had. For one thing it doesn't look like rifling...it's almost like scoring. How can I tell what the heck this is?

They look like this? Weird, I didn't know anybody made a .63 cal sabot that also works in smoothbores.

Anyway since the box says they're good for smoothbores you should be good to go, if it were me I would shoot them up to see how I like 'em rather than mess around trying to return them.

yes but they dont say sabots in yellow. im wondering hpow accurate these will be. or if i should even try shooting them. i know pretty much next to nothing about slugs. this seems to be some kind of hybrid?

I would venture a guess if Brenneke sells them, they will give acceptable accuracy in either barrel.

Those guys don't fool around when it comes to slugs.
They've been doing it for about 100 years now.

I'd shoot them and find out, heck I might look into these. And yeah most sabot slugs are like .50 cal and should really be used in rifled barrels only.

Hmmm. The website says it can be used and either and so do you guys, so hmmm. Guess I'll have to give it a go. It goes against everything I've been taught about slugs, but whatever lol.

See http://www.brennekeusa.com/web/pdf/KOslug.pdf

If they look like the box pictured there, they're plain old Brenneke KO's, not sabots. The red plastic wad snaps onto the slug itself- with the old style Brennekes, there were felt wads held in place by a screw run into the base of the slug.

If there's no sabot, these are plain old KO's for smoothbores.

What you've probably been taught is a sabot bullet has to spin to be stable.

But these are not bullets.
They are weight-forward 20ga smoothbore Brenneke slugs that fly point first like a badminton shuttlecock if they don't get the spin applied by a rifled barrel.

If they spin in a rifled barrel it's O.K., and if they don't spin in a smoothbore barrel, it's still O.K.
