I want to get a Remington 870 with a 14" barrel. I know I've seen them before I just don't know where to buy one and what hoops I need to jump through. So.....

1. Where do I find more info on the paperwork?
2. Can I just get a new barrel or does it have to be a whole gun?
3. Who can sell me a Remington 870 Police with a 14" barrel?

*I don't want an express it has to be a Police model 870.

Well... if you want to talk about it here on the Shotgun Forum, it's gonna have to be a SBS.

What state are you in? Does your state allow toys of that nature? We need to get that answered first. Then we can go on to the rest of it.

Any FFL/SOT holder can buy these from a Remington LE distributor.

If by chance you are in metro Atlanta, give Ed's Pawn in Stockbridge a call. They have the FFL/SOT for this, and they got me my 870P when I made my purchase. I did it over the phone, it came in within a week, and I drove down there to pick it and do the paperwork.
 
As long as your CLEO is obliging and will sign off on your paperwork, you should be good to go. Otherwise you get to go signature shopping- from chief of police, to sheriff, to DA, to judge. Then you get to find a dealer.

That page has PDF versions of the forms you need. I believe to make a SBS you need a Form 1, and to buy one that way from the factory, which it sounds like you want to do, you need a form 4. Someone correct me if that's not correct. I'm thinking about doing it myself :D
