I friend of mine who also reloads every now and again was commenting on his Lee Pro 1000 and how it had to be sent back to lee for caliber changes. He has had it a while but stored it and purchased another Lee press that he loves. He said he did not want the Pro 1000 anymore so he gave it to me!

Of course there was some surface rust on some parts but I disassembled and used steel wool to clean up all the surface rust, oiled and put back together. It works like a champ except it was missing a few parts.

He originally bought it to do 30 Carbine; He has since sold the 30 Carbine dies and sold the Turret with them and he lost the Primer tray (still had the cover and trough, though.

Well it appears you do not have to send them back for caliber changes

I purchased last night a 380acp shell plate to convert my carrier to 380acp. I had to get a new Turret and went ahead and purchased a new primer tray assembly ($10). Lastly it still had the shell feeder tubes but I went ahead and got a new set for the small cases. All in all I now have 380acp Lee Pro 1000 for only $51

I plan to buy a few more turrets for my other pistol caliber dies and eventually get 3 other carrier assemblies, #1, #11, and #14 which should cover all my pistol calibers.

You hit the jackpot! Let us know how it does. Lee will be helpful if it needs any parts.

<snort!> Nonsense! Changing out a turret is trivial. Changing out a shellplate isn't, but it isn't all that difficult.

Free? You got a deal.

Bib Black, that is a good press and I'm sure you will like it alot. I have the Loadmaster and love it for pistol calibers. If I get another press it will most likely be the 1000.

Here's a post I did the other day on cleaning up a Pro 1000.

There's probably some comments there that may not apply to your version, but look it over for any tips you can use--

When I set up my Pro 1000, I did get numerous carrier assemblies. In hindsight, I realize now that I really only needed two different carriers--i.e., one set up for small primers, and one set up for large primers. (Note that the anvil and the tray mounting arm are different for each size.) With that in mind, then you can get just different shell plates, and not the whole carrier.

If possible--i.e., if it's new enough to have the lug for the manual powder return--set it up to use the manual powder return on the (Pro) Auto Disk Measure. Other than the primer subsystem issues, the only other issue to really watch for is the spring return on the powder measure may (rarely) bind, and that can result in squib loads.

I did the large primer/small primer carrier thing for a while with my Pro1K. Then I discovered that the majority of problems I had with it resulted from having to retime it after a plate swap. I'd get it running like a watch and then have to change to a different caliber.
Now I just have a shellplate carrier loaded and ready for each major caliber I load, and it really helps out.

As a matter of fact I have a #1 complete shellplate carrier assembly with primer tray etc. on eBay for sale right now, and I have a spare #19 shellplate also. Take the whole mess for $60 shipped, and for a THR member I'll throw in a spare turret plate too.

Just search on eBay for that description and you'll see it. Ending soon!
