I'm licensed for CCW, have been carrying in the time-tested and completely obvious Fanny Pack for over a year now. I'd like to get something allowing a more rapid deployment. I'd prefer to minimize any details, but my day-to-day activities prevent actually wearing the fanny pack, instead it's inside a backpack. Thoughts?

Of note: I have a waistline which slightly exceeds ideal for any form of beltline carry (painful).

Fanny packs scream "Hey I'm carrying a gun!"

I would suggest either a holster from High Noon Holsters http://www.highnoonholsters.com
or a belly band holster from McGills http://magills.com

My personal every day carry is a Kahr CW9 loaded with Buffalo Bore 124gr. +P hollow points in a High Noon Hidden Ally IWB holster. I carry mine just over my right buttock area at about the 4 o'clock position. In the summer time I usually just wear my t-shirt loose over the top, and in the winter I either wear a coat or tuck my shirt around it. Either way I can get to it fairly quickly.

I personally would stay away from carrying in places like your ankle. Carry your gun closest to where your hand will be. If you don't and when you have to go for it, it will be an exaggerated move and will be telling everyone "Hey, I'm reaching for a gun!" I also think ankle holsters are bad because there is the chance of it falling out, you have to wear long pants to conceal it and you are bending over or raising your leg to draw. Either way you are off balance.

Whatever holster you buy or which ever way you decide to carry it, be sure to practice drawing it regularly. And don't worry about speed. Speed will come with time. A gun wont do you a bit of good if you go to grab it in a hurry and it goes flying out of your hand. And whatever gun you carry on your body remember to clean and check it from time to time. You may not shoot it, but lint, sweat and other debris can and will get into it from time to time.

I carry a 23 with Galco leather and belt with no problems. I attribute that more to the belt than the holster.

Don't skimp on the BELT! It makes all the difference.

*sorry didn't read your post clearly*

nevermind.
