This is a Rem 700 VLS circa 1999 7mm-08 26" Hvy Bbl.
(~7/8 OD). The muzzle is threaded back about 3/4 inch in length.

The thread measures .565" on the major dia. The pitch is 22 TPI best estimate. Is this a standard thread for a "gentleman's acoustic attenuator", for an adaptor for same, or for something else like a flash hider or compensator?

I cannot specifically identify the thread in Machinery's Handbook. It could be 9/16" UNF or UNEF, or maybe M14 metric. What say ye?

Thanks, I will go with that. Now I need to see what will fit on there. I would like to put something useful there. Right now it is just an elastomeric thread protector. The beveled muzzle crown still looks good.

I doubt anyone would bother with a suppressor for a 7mm-08; I suspect the threading is for a BOSS or something similar.

Most likely so, and remember, with a good lathe, one can make any thread he wants regarding both diameter and pitch and it not be in Machinery's Handbook or anything. I doubt it, but it could be completely unique.

I agree, you would need a "Can" the size of a 55 gal drum to supress that round, so I doubt it is for a supressor. Could very well be a muzzle break/flash hider. Tons of stuff out there to fit 9/16 x 20, 22, 24 and the same with 1/2 by 20's something. I have had stuff here in the shop with totally unidentifiable threads, some really weird stuff, I have had to custom make things to fit odd threads before, but never on a 7mm - 08 and especially only threaded back 3/4".

Regards,
Mike
