Identification request

Hello,

What can you tell me about these two revolvers.

The first one is a double niner – i think the frame is alloy made and the markings on the barrel read „Revolver Detective Calibre 22 L.R.“

At first sight the second one looks like a gasser 1873 montenegrian, but in detail its slightly different. Like the gasser it has a (removable) fiveshot cylinder (.38sp fall right through) with loading gate and NO markings. Oh, and its smoothbore.

The second looks like a Solid-frame Gasser Model 1873 with five-shot cylinder. Caliber 11 mm. Also sold as a "Montenegrian model". Check this site for a drawing http://guns.connect.fi/gow/QA12.html It might also be a Belgian copy of the Gasser. Do you have any more photos of it?

Those Gasser revolvers were well made, and even the Belgian imitations were reasonably good quality. That gun is neither. I suspect it is a product of eastern gun makers in the Khyber Pass or other areas where guns have been made with a minimum of machinery and a lot of hand work. Those guns are interesting as products of local labor and an indication of a people determined not to be deprived of weapons, but they are poor quality and not especially valuable.

The .22 is an inexpensive copy of the High Standard Sentinel. "MR" probably means "Marca Registrada" ("Registered Trademark" in Spanish). I have no idea what the DV or VD means (in this context).

I thought first the gun might be of German origin (a picture of any proof marks would help), but the "MR" points toward a Spanish or Portuguese speaking country, maybe Spain or Argentina.
