Tomorrow I am going to try out a Savage bolt action .308 that a friend is selling. He says it's a Savage 112 but isn't sure. It's about 10 years old and I don't know if it's still being made. It has a left hand action, 22" barrel and a cheapo injection molded plastic stock where you can actually see the mold marks where they filled in the voids when the mold was originally made for the right hand stock. The right side of the action has what looks like a cocking indicator that is a lever which rises and falls as the gun is fired and re-cocked. It's a push feed with a blind magazine and holds five rounds total.
Custom touches include a barrel cut back to 20" with a nice recessed crown. It is fitted with an AO Scout mount. The barrel and action are refinished with what he thinks is parkerizing, with a slight greenish tinge. The front sight base is steel instead of the cheap original plastic and there is a Willliams aperture sight screwed in the rear scope mount holes.
Obviously this is a budget rifle but the custom work is very well done, perhaps overkill on a rifle like this? Does this sound like a Model 112 from the description? I'll try to take some pics but all I have is a cell phone camera and at the moment I can't find the cord for it. The seller is asking $350. Any opinions regarding the quality of this rifle will be greatly appreciated.
