Any one know of any good links to help Identifying a Mauser rifle?
I have a 2nd one coming in the mail next week and there are not a whole lot markings just some numbers on the action and the safety.

There are some photos of the markings on the listing. Not sure what I am going to do with it yet. Seems I have this itch to buy Mausers right now....

Well, it used to be a '98 military Mauser, I can't tell whose.
But it has been crudely sporterized and the bolt is not a match for the action. Strangely, the safety is, or may be.

Thanks for the info. This one may turn into a 45acp conversion. If its already a mutt, it wont hurt it a bit.
I already have a VZ24 that I was going to convert, but I kinda like it as is.

My sporterized Nazi Mauser shoots 1" groups with its original World War II barrel. Can't argue with that for what I paid for it.

The linked Mauser is an overall good-looking piece. I would risk it. The rear sight is intact, which means it could probably be restored to milspec fairly easily. "Found in old home" sounds suspicious to me. Though for the price, I'd go for it. I'd keep it in its original caliber, though. 8mm is fun. Or if you do rebarrel it, find a good hunting caliber. I've heard of them being rebarreled to .22-250 and similar, and turned into good varmint guns.

The wood is part of a K98k, the bolt is not, that is for sure. The barrel & action I just am not sure, it is a mutt, that is for sure. Sure hope that helped, I`m sure it probably did`nt, but o well I sure tried..............
