"I don't like glocks because they don't have a safety."
The glock safety is not compatible with people who refuse to follow the 4 rules because it incorporates part of the brain and requires that to be linked to the arm and, by extension, the index finger. It's a complicated system, but hey, it's Austrian.
If he wants a gun that will allow him to carelessly mash the trigger without firing he should not choose a glock or an XD without the external safety.

"Oddly enough, I don't see how escalating the confrontation promotes firearms safety."

We're not talking about "promoting firearms safety". We're talking about keeping *one* moron from pointing a gun at *me* (figuratively) *right now*. Want to be polite about it? Go ahead. I guess I'm just not very polite.

Tim

No one's pointed out that he doesn't like Glocks for their lack of a safety yet the XD's don't have a safety either... he is an idiot.

I have had the SALESMAN in a gun store take a handgun out of the case to show me and point it directly at my chest. The action was closed. I took a step to the side, and he looked at me funny.

To his credit, he didn't have his finger on the trigger.

No shortage of idiots on both sides of the counter

I was in one of my regular stops on the CT gun store circuit and the 20ish kid of the owner was playing "Host behind the counter", I asked to look at a new addition to the "Used" display and he blatantly swept me 2-3 times, horizontally, vertically and the X-Axis (imagine the Catholic Trinity).

Never believing that dressing someone down publicly is proper I grabbed and folded the gun back over his wrist and twisted it out of his hands very quickly and private like, when he looked surprised and shocked at my actions I leaned forward and whispered to him that is I take it VERY PERSONAL when someone I have never met points a gun at me. He sheepishly nodded a wide-eyed acknowledgment.

I did not tell his dad. but will, privately, when I have the chance. In the military they call this an "On the spot correction" usually seen AND heard when dealing with safety issues...

Gander Mountain is the place to see and hear wild things from both the would be buyer and the sales person. The best one I've seen lately was a salesman showing a Browning B25 and the buyer asked if it would be a good HD gun also. Salesmans reply was I would trust it for that. Price of the gun $25,000. When salesman left to get a boxed gun I told the guy that the Remington 870 18.5" or 20" barrel was a better choice, but don't tell the salesman I said it. The guy bought the 870 for less than $400 with ammo

I rather use a reproduction horse pistol with musketball and powder/flint thank you than spend 25K for a HD weapon.

well, he was right about one thing. for him, it sounds like he NEEDS a gun with a safety on it! :scrutiny: some people are just not to bright. all you can do is hope that when the gun goes off by accident, it is HIS foot it shoots!

It would be a nice gesture if a sign was posted behind the counter that said this. I have been swept countless times and moved out of the way as many times. Leaving only never to return to that gun shop.

When examining firearms please keep the muzzle pointed in the safest direction possible!

DoubleTapDrew hit it right on the head.

I waiting to see how long it took someone to point that out. A glock and xd have pretty much the same safeties with the exception of the grip safety on the xd. (with the exception of the XD45 that has an external safety) The 3 inch model (that the guy was looking at) doesn't come with an external safety.
