Howdy folks. My application just came in. If you are in the military and stationed in CA, you can get a California out of State Military Assault Weapons Permit. It's a $78 fee good for 1 year and a $25 renewal fee for every subsequent year. The only stipulation is that you have to own these weapons already and can't register any new weapons once you get the permit. I left the application at my desk at work so I can't give you the Point of Contact, but this is my last (and first) post of the night before I hit the rack, so either PM me and I'll hit you up tomorrow or just stand by and I'll post a reply with the email address when I get to work.

Semper Fi.

You could spend the $100 on an off-the-list lower and support our industries rather than the CA DOJ.

sure he could, but why not do both?

the guy is trying to be helpful. i know you didnt mean it that way, but it sounded like a rebuke.

thanks for the info. does this mean that i can bring in any run of the mill ar that i would wish and not have to meet stupid non removable magazine specs?

This is wrong, renewal is free if you mail it back on time, if you're late it's $25, if you are about to deploy you can renew it early for a year, but you can only renew it for a year at a time. The DOJ is actually very out going for US Service Personel from out of state.

You could spend the $100 on an off-the-list lower and support our industries rather than the CA DOJ.

When you register the Assult Rifle with the DOJ, you don't have to be "CA Legal"... we can have; our detachable 30 round mags or even beta mags, pistol grips, collapsable butt stocks, 16" barrels and flash suppresors, even bayonet lugs are cool.

If you buy an off list lower you have to play by the "CA Legal Rule Book", my M4-gery looks exactly like my Issued M16M4, less a PEQ-2 and a lugged compensator for a twist on silecer.

The only stipulation is that you have to own these weapons already and can't register any new weapons once you get the permit

This is up for debate... I've been told that if I'm going to buy an AK-47 for "training purposes" they'll add it, we have AK-47's in our Armory for "training", I'm actually thinking of buying one from the same manufacture, just in a semi-auto only configuration. Also if you buy an assult rifle from a CA indivudual that was "grandfathered in" you can add that to your permit.

There's no difference in the $78 fee, vs. the ATF's $200 tax stamp on NFA.

CA DOJ Firearms Division phone number is 917-227-3274, usally I talk to a woman, can't remember her name.

My brother is station in CA, he owens a Glock17 that I have here with me is their any provisions for him to have it cuz he is active duty.

Please PM me.

Wish I had researched this in 2004. Good info for those of us in freedom-loving states getting stationed in CA.

He's talking about keeping the guns he's got in their current configurations. Purchasing an off-the-list lower is almost moot.

I'm PCS-ing to Camp Pendleton in December / January. I have a glock 19 with 15 round mags and an AR-15 (M4 style). If this is a way for me to legally take them to CA then I'm all over this. I was telling everyone that I would have to leave them with my parents in AL for 2-3 years!!! This is great news.

Sorry, jack,
The law only makes permissions for assault weapons, not high-capacity magazines.
