In regards to this thread: http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=102539

I think we should all call Arnold to thank him.

Gov. Schwarzenegger: 916-445-2841

Press "2" and then "0" to get a staffer.

PLEASE CALL NOW. I JUST DID.

It is just as important to let him know that we appreciate his good decisions as it is to let him know we disapprove of his bad ones!!!

You have to be joking

If you think that I'm going to thank the governor for vetoing ANYTHING after he signed AB50, you must be out of your mind. He should have vetoed all 3 of the bills, signing AB50 was the biggest slap in the face to gunowners I've ever seen. Anyone who supports Arnold after what he done is either an anti, has a bad memory, or has no principles. Hear that wittling noise? Those are your freedoms, being stripped away, one at a time, and you've fallen for the consolation prize. Don't be surprised if these bills come back soon, and eventually they will pass as well. :fire: As long as they placate the masses by throwing them a few crumbs, not only will they tolerate it, they will thank you for it. Bit by bit. Bit by bit...

Hey man, I never said I support Arnold.

I could not possibly agree more that he should have vetoed all three, but the fact of the matter is that he didn't.

For whatever reason, he did not sign 1142 and 1152 and I don't think it is unreasonable to thank him for that.

I think it would make gun owners look pretty bad if we only contacted an elected official when we had a complaint and never bothered to thank them for doing something good for us.

He screwed us on AB50, and I flamed him for it. However, he did right by vetoing these bills, and I'm going to be just as quick to tell him so. However, in my mail I am making it clear that I wish he had shown the same common sense when reviewing AB50.

Well, I suppose it's all about your priorities. No matter what else he does, after signing AB50 Arnold has become THE ENEMY. I think that calling him and thanking him will make him believe that gunowners are "not so upset" with him as a whole, which I think they should be. There is nothing he can do now to redeem himself in my eyes, other than claim someone forged his signature on AB50 or other such nonsense. I will relentlessly seek the end of Arnold's term come next election, no matter what. :fire:

When I was a little kid, the neighborhood bully kicked me once hard in the cajones.

He said he had the opportunity to kick me three times, but decided to veto the other two.

People told me that I should thank him for kicking me.

I just bided my time, and "corrected" him later.

That's how I feel, Dr. Jones, but I see your point.

And I don't, in spite of the above, completely disagree.

Maybe Arnold got bombarded after signing AB50, and realized the error of his ways. I doubt it though...just playing politics.

Probably can't hurt to praise and encourage him when he does good, though...works with my three year old. :p

It's called politics. He's a smart guy but sometimes he'll have to do something ????ty.

Who knows, maybe this will generate an industry built around .49 caliber rifles.

I really, really wish he had vetoed all three of them. But Drjones is right, we need to contact Arnold and let him know we appreciate his vetoes of 1140 and 1152, and his signing of the other one (which number escapes me at the moment) that codifies a procedure for returning stolen/confiscated firearms to their owners.

After all, next year there will be anti-gun bills, and maybe even some pro-gun bills (a man can dream, can't he?), and we'll need his support then too.

Vetoing all three of the bad bills wouldn't have been an option for him:

Why couldn't they go to .55 cal. Or was the law .50 and larger?

Call him and tell him you are disappointed he signed AB50. Tell him you appreciate him vetoing the other two. This isn't an all or nothing thing. If gun owners want to tell him it is too late for him and that no matter what he does now we are going to try and boot him, guess what? He will just sign all of the bills in that case. Lest anyone forget, this is not a conservative state and we do not set the agenda. Thank him for what he has done and caution him for things you wish he would have done differently. That is my 2 cents.

pdog,

Most things above .50 are Destructive Devices (NFA)

Actually, there are plenty of sporting calibers on the north side of .50" that have BATFE exemption from the DD list: .600 Nitro Express, .700 Nitro Express, .700 JDJ, and others.

Hmm. The idea of a semi-auto in .600 NE is almost scarily cool. A genuine semi-auto elephant gun! :D
Of course, in california it could end up being called a 'car gun', as in you hunt cars with it!

Cheers,
ErikM
