I like to help people out and I know there are a lot of people out there that would like to own an AR 15 but lack the funds to get one. So I have scoured the internet to find you quality parts at reasonable prices and should get you shooting for around or less than 450.

New Frontier Armory LW-15 Gen II complete polymer lower $109/free shipping
http://www.joeboboutfitters.com/New_Frontier_Armory_LW_15_Complete_Poly_Lower_p/nfa-lw15blk.htm

PTAC slick slide complete 16" upper 269.99 $20 ish shipping so $280ish

2 Magpul Pmag M2 (buy two and save on shipping) with ecomony shipping 27.00
http://gunmagwarehouse.com/magpul-p...5-223-5-56-30-round-mag571-br-all-colors.html

So, to buy a slick slide upper, polymer lower and two magpul magazine and rear sight will run you right at... $470.00 for a polymer lower Rifle that is ready to go.
I realize that some of you out there might not like polymer lowers so here is an all metal one for a little more.
PSA complete AR lower no magazine 149.00 plus 20ish shipping so 170.00

P.S. I forgot to add sights.
Magpul BUIS gen 2 rear sight. $54.00 After shipping. I know there are cheaper options but they suck. Spend the little extra money and get a better rear sight.

Also don't fall for the fakes all over the internet on Amazon or Ebay that claim to be Magpul but aren't

You are right, I did. I am currently looking for a set of good back up sights that are affordable and not crap. I think Magpul may be my only option.

So these parts just snap together like Legos and I'm good to go? I've been thinking about an entry level AR for a truck gun.

Also keep track of your time at min. wage and add that in just for grins.

I had a little more money and just bought a Ruger AR-556 soon after they came out. Granted it was $599, but I like it.

They do but you have to watch the fit between the upper and lower. Some people don’t care and others will put a wedge in between the upper & lower. For example I just purchased the above mentioned PTAC but only at $189.99 w/o the BGC and charging handle from PSA. The upper was a very sloppy fit between my Anderson lower. I only wanted the barrel assemble anyway so I placed the PTAC barrel assemble on my Anderson upper that fits my Anderson lower perfectly. If you are going to build one I would try and stay with matching uppers & lower to get the best fit although I did use an Anderson lower on a Windham Weaponry upper once and they fit perfectly probably because both had the same forge markings but YMMV

Just remember "ya gets what ya pay for" a lot of the bargain assemblies work just fine for occasional shooters or those that want a "truck gun". By doing a small amount off research you will find rifles available for little more money, carry a warranty and made with quality parts. I cite the S&W Sport as an example of a low price entry level rifle built to last many years and many thousands of rounds. I build most of my rifles however i use components that i know are going to make a rifle that will compete with "the best of them" and i pay accordingly for the components. On the other hand my Sport has gobbled thousands of rounds without mishap and is as reliable as my best build or Daniel Defense rifle. If this were a combat situation i would opt for a better quality rifle but for the average civie shooter the Sport range of rifles will operate just fine.

I'd still go with the S&W M&P Sport. You just about can't find a bad word on these things, going back years now, and my experience is the same. They are a nice, solid rifle, and from a revered, quality company known for excellent CS.
It will also have higher re-sale value and interest due to the name, over some ultra-budget, no-name rifle.
I see them pop-up fairly often on the classified sites, but they are also coming in very inexpensively lately from several retailers (like under $600,delievered...and that's with the Mag-pul rear sight, and usually with a 30rd Mag-pul magazine).
And personally, this about as penny-pinching as I'm willing to go on an AR.

There were new S&W sports being offered on gunbroker just a few days ago at well under $500, including shipping.... Pretty hard to beat that with any carbine (AR or other style). Even with shipping and transfer fee. If anyone knows a downside please speak up...

That's certainly an inexpensive value, however I recently bought a new DPMS model A-15 for the same price, $479, and that came with a normal aluminum lower. There are some great deals on ARs out there.

Friend just bought a S&W Sport paid $600 for it. Went with him to the range to try it out, steel case, factory and handloads functioned without a hitch. The other thing the OP hadn't taken into account as easy as it is to build an AR not everyone has the skill or the wherewithal to build one.

If a person has some skill and shops around they can do pretty well.

I took my time and shopped around while building mine and, including shipping and FFL and a Simmons scope, $430.

95% Anderson components and shoots like a dream. I already mags so those aren't included.

I didn't even look at fully built rifles and it appears that the AR market has been crushed by its own weight. You can get several good quality rifles for about the same price as my budget build and get a warranty. I probably should have looked first.

Yes I wouldn't bother building an entry level gun as there are way too many complete guns that are hard to compete with, but if a guy does a little research and buys right you can put a basic AR with a barrel and trigger upgrade and put some decient glass on it and have a gun that'll shoot with most high end stuff for not much more than entry level $$$
