Very nice guy I work with bought a Rossi 20 ga / .22 rifle combo single shot for his son. Took him out to learn to shoot. Shot the .22 and all went well.

Decided to shoot the 20 ga. Boy (9 years old) shot the 20, and said it hurt his cheek. His dad, obviously not a shotgunner told the boy "hold your cheek away from the stock when you shoot". Result: split lip!

Boy obviously doesn't want to shoot the 20 ga anymore.

Friday, I took dad to Elm Fork for "Shotgun 101". I had him shoot my Beretta A390. To start off, I gave a lesson in stance and mount. I had him track 3 or 4 clays with no ammo imagining where he would trigger the shot.

I then loaded him up, and had him start with a pre-mounted gun. He missed the first 3 or 4, and I coached him a bit after each shot. He then hit a couple.

I asked him if he was closing one eye. He said he was. I told him to try with both eyes open. Wow! He began hitting about 7 out of 10.

When we left after about 75 rounds, he could not stop talking about how much fun he had, and how he needed to get a semi auto 20 ga for his son.

I asked him if he was shotgun shopping this weekend, and he grinned and said "Could be".

Now that is FUN!
