I'm thinking the firing pin doesn't come apart in an 870?

Right. Kuhnhausen's book has the technique for doing so, not that hard to replace

Why sweat the firing pin when you can get a near-new (looks new to me) parkerized 870 bolt from CDNN for $10 or chromed for $15?: http://www.cdnninvestments.com/remington4.html . I have 2 of their parkerized 870 bolts (complete w/firing pin, firing pin spring & extractor) and if they're "used" I can't tell it.

Just spray it off with Gun Scrubber.

I don't have any gun scrubber, nor can I afford 5 dollars at the minute. Gun Scrubber can't get into every location, either.

Automotive brake parts cleaner. I use the non-chlorinated kind. It runs something like 97¢ to 2 bucks a can at Wal-Mart. I'm sure you already know to use it outdoors and wear your eye protection. I like gloves, too. It can't get into absolutely every location, I suppose, but it sure does what I need it to do.
