I was wondering why (at least in this state) everythings a waiting game for ccws. When I first got my ccw and got done taking the all day class and the 4 hours going from line to line to line at the fingerprinting place where you do all the paperwork for the ccw you had to wait 120 days from then before you got your card and you could carry( and it was 120 days you could set your calender by it). I just qualified for 2 more handguns today and went to have them added on and its going to be 7-14 working days before I get a new card and can carry them. Why the wait when I can go to the dmv and leave with the drivers liscence card the same day. Just wondering.

Why? Because it's a gun! Everything needs to be slower because it's a gun. Because if it took 120 days to get your drivers license, people would be outraged! But you want to carry a gun. You must have some evil intent, especially if you want to carry more than one! Why do you need more than one anyway? We don't think you should be allowed but, that pesky constitution keeps stopping us from imposing our will on you. Well they can't tell us to move fast can they? No sir, 120 days we have, and 120 days we will use.

By the way, Pennsylvania, shall issue (thank you Sarah Brady for making them clarify that), 45 day max, it usually comes sooner. $19.00 to process, no classes to take (okay, that one scares me a little), good for all guns owned and I don't need a reason. Come on back east, we still have some room left.

120 days... thats messed up. Ive been waiting 19 long years to turn 21, and im going to have to wait another 4 months after that? :(

Jeez ... I always thought of NV as a pretty pro-gun kinda state.

Here in Colorado, after I got my training I went to the Sheriff's office and filled out the paperwork and was fingerprinted and photographed (took about 20 min total). Very nice lady at the Sheriff's office that handles these things.

Two weeks later my CCW showed up in the mail.

How I figure it they probably get the card made that day and then they sit on some beurocratic anti gunnies desk for the other 117 days.dont get me wrong Im thankful I at least live in a shall issue state, unlike california or nebraska.

Why?

Because government is involved.

A major research institution (MRI) has recently announced the discovery of the heaviest chemical element yet known to science. The new element has been tentatively named Governmentium.

Governmentium has 1 neutron, 12 assistant neutrons, 75 deputy neutrons, and 224 assistant deputy neutrons, giving it an atomic mass of 312.

These 312 particles are held together by forces called morons, which are surrounded by vast quantities of lepton-like particles called peons. Since governmentium has no electrons, it is inert. However, it can be detected as it impedes every reaction with which it comes into contact. A minute amount of governmentium causes one reaction to take over four days to complete when it would normally take less than a second.

Governmentium has a normal half-life of three years; it does not decay, but instead undergoes a reorganization in which a portion of the assistant neutrons and deputy neutrons exchange places. In fact, governmentium's mass will actually increase over time, since each reorganization will cause some morons to become neutrons, forming isodopes.

This characteristic of moron-promotion leads some scientists to speculate that governmentium is formed whenever morons reach a certain quantity in concentration. This hypothetical quantity is referred to as Critical Morass.

I've been waiting since last October.

They are just trying to wait me out, methinks.

Park County:

If you have acceptable training certification and filled out the paperwork and have a fingerprint card completed, why the process takes about a day. Mind, you schedule when you're coming in to see the Sheriff, and everything goes very smoothly if you're a county resident (the Sheriff enjoys it if you bring in the firearms you want on the permit so he can verify serial numbers and talk shop, pet loads, carry rigs, you name it - bring it into the office in the same condition and case as if you were planning on checking it as luggage at an airport).

It's not unusual for the process to take even less time. . .

:D

Trisha, I was with you right up to this part "...the Sheriff enjoys it if you bring in the firearms you want on the permit so he can verify serial numbers...".

Does Park County require you to register your CCW piece?

Can you carry any old gun or does it have to be on some sort of list with the Sheriff?

I'd rather wait 6 months and be able to carry any gun I want then get my permit the same day but have to register my gun(s) and only use the gun(s) registered with Der Kommissar :scrutiny:

I don't know the answer to that one, hon. I think serial numbers are required on a Colorado CCW, but I don't know the letter of the law.

"Der Kommisar"? I understand where you're coming from, but in this specific Sheriff that's not applicable. I'm well aware how swiftly it could all change in the next election, though, believe me.

Since the law was standardized statewide, finding the details shouldn't be difficult. We've had Park County permits long before the state passed uniform rules & regs for the process.

The real, applicable, answer you are looking for is this:

Clark County.

NV is pro-gun. Clark County is NOT.

Clark County is the only NV jurisdiction that requires gun registration. They also require each gun and serial number be recorded with the county (Gun make, model and caliber appear on the permit--serial number does not). Legally you are only allowed to carry the EXACT gun you qualified with, as identified by serial number.

Also, Clark County feels it is absolutely necessary to take the FULL amount of time allowed by law to process your application (and maybe a little more if you don't call and ask about it, or even longer if they think you are harrassing them about it).

120 days minimum until they send out your permit.

Solution? I beleive Pahrump is in Nye County. Take a drive next time.

Thats true my last gun I bought in Pahrump and didnt think about until I was on the road home, I didnt get a blue card for this. So the next day I had to go through the hassle of going to the police station to wait around to get a blue card. Also open carry is legal in Nevada but not clark county.
