Bought some of the above powder as a replacement for W231 gr.dot and titegroup which are non existant in my area. My load was through a Taurus pt 1911--- 5.7 gr. under a 200 gr.LSWC with a COAL of 1.235. Shot well and cycled good. My complaint is that a lot of unburned powder was left behind and the cases were greasy feeling but not overly sooty. Do I have to cut down on the load or is the powder to slow burning for a handgun cartridge. I plan on loading 9MM .38 spec. also until I can get the preffered powder.
Thanks to all Howie

Thanks rc, But wouldn't a bigger load like you suggest cause more unburned powder? Also if I make the oal1.225 the lip of the swc would be even with the lip of the case causing feeding problems?

Actually. The closer to the max load you are the more efficiently the powder burns leaving less unturned powder. Also. Sometimes burnt "skeletons" are often times confused for unturned powder.

MightyMO1911 is exactly right.

Higher pressure will make for a cleaner burn.
Try the suggested Starting load from Hodgdon.

As for your OAL?
Chances are slim that you are using the exact same bullet design Hodgdon used in testing.

Seat it so about a thumbnails with of the front driving band is sticking out of the case.
Whatever the OAL turns out to be, is the correct one for your bullets.

Seated too long, the driving band will jam into the rifling when chambered.
You don't want that.

Thanks rc and MightyMo1911.
Will try that combo. I made the oal1.235 so the drive band will stick out by about .020 past the rim of the case. I plunk test all of my rounds also.

SR 7625 is an excellent pistol powder, and will work well in your 9x19 loads. The downside is that it's going to be discontinued in 2015. It's not well known like some of the other handgun powders, so sales weren't enough to keep it in the sales lineup.

Hope this helps.
