Brownsburg Town Council is asked to add arrows to firearms laws

June 9, 2004

Brownsburg -- Donna Crisp hopes the Brownsburg Town Council will add bows and arrows to the town's firearms ordinance.

She filed a complaint May 2 after her neighbor's son shot arrows that missed the intended target.

The police talked with Crisp's neighbors but could do little else.

Council members will discuss adding bows and arrows to their firearms ordinance Thursday night. Typically, ordinances are considered after three meetings.

Town Attorney Mark O'Hara, who worked on some wording changes Tuesday afternoon, said he hopes to find a way to allow responsible archers to practice in their back yards while protecting other residents.

I wonder how these soccer moms will react when they find out that some of thier nebours turn thier basment into a shooting galley? Some shooters have done this.

I live very close to Brownsburg and used to shoot bows and arrows in our backyard all the time. Built a backstop in the backyard. Never had any complaints but then I don't think we ever lobbed any arrows into the neighbors yard.

Think this ordinance could go through? Doesn't the law define a firearm as a device used to propel a projectile via a chemical explosion? (or something like that)
