In state (NY) purchase question

Is it jegal to purchase a used rifle in New York state and ship it either UPS or USPS? This would be a personal purchase not from a dealer. Both seller & buyer are in NYS. Seller says its legal I have no reason not to believe him I'm just not comfortable with the possibilty of having a rifle shipped to me. Am I just paranoid? Thanks Tim

You better believe it Tim. A fellow new yorker and myself just went through this. Although he shipped the gun to me via USPS, but that's neither here nor there. So long as you know he is a NYS resident and the gun never leaves the state, you can ship it to a non-ffl.
