Hi, I have a suppressor that I bought a few years ago before finding out about the benefits of a trust. I want to transfer that suppressor from myself to my trust. What form do I need to use to initiate the transfer? I believe all that is required is for me to complete a Form 4 and send in $200 and my trust to the ATF. Since the state in which the suppressor resides and the address of the trust is, I do not need to go through any dealers, right? I want to get this taken care of before the whole 41F nonsense in July. Thanks!

If you want to pay $200 to transfer your silencer into a trust you can certainly do that. You dont have to go through a dealer. Just file a form 4. Seems like a waste of $200 to me but to each his own.

I just wanted to make sure that you know about the upcoming changes (Link to an explanation of 41F changes) to the way the batfe handles a trust. Starting in just a couple of months, if you add any new firearms/silencers to a trust, you will need to get the fingerprint cards for every trustee listed (the fingerprints are valid for any other changes within two years).

I am still going with a trust for the one suppressor that will be designated for a home defense role, so that in the event that my wife needs it when I'm away it's legal for her to possess/use it. Other than that instance, I'm not sure which benefits will still be useful once the changes happen. The CLEO signoff is going away and that was the biggest thing for a lot of folks. Though, since you already own one, that's obviously not the biggest draw for you.

I am familiar with 41F.

My motivation for asking the question was so that I could get the suppressor transfer paperwork in the system before 41F takes effect. I have my parents and brothers on my trust and I like for them to be able to use my toys. 41F will definitely make it more cumbersome to obtain NFA items with a trust, but I will still use that route as I like for them to be able to use and possess my NFA items.
