Information on a S&W 22A / .22L.R.

I found a pistol I bought several years ago & had put up. It is a S&W model 22A. / .22L.R. . I think they may have called it the 'Sport Model ' but I am not sure. It has target sights built into a rail screwed on top of the barrel. Looks a lot like a High Standard .22 LR. Simi-auto pistol. Can someone please give me some background on this pistol? It shoots great & is very accurate! Thanks! Krupparms.

I can't tell you anything other than its my favorite .22lr pistol. I've run about 10,000 rounds a year through mine shooting steel plates since I got it late 2005. S&W has repaired it for free (paying shipping both ways) a couple of times despite the high mileage.

I could pretty much just quote Wally or simply yeah what he said. I have had mine probablyl since 01 its been shot, carried, stored, shot and then shot some more. I couldnt be happier.

Hate to be the sour grape in the bunch but mine was terrible. Ftf's or fte's every magazine, hated the plastic buffer that wears out and must be replaced. For the money I would rather have a ruger or browning.

I 've only changed mine once, perhaps S&W did on the repairs, but they never mentioned it on the return paperwork if they did . Did you give S&W a chance to make it right?

None of my Rugers were ever reliable until I put in the Volquartsen extractor. I rarely take my M22A apart -- its so open on the sides I can easily keep the slide and barrel faces clean enough and the bore has never needed more than a spritz of Hoppe's #9 and a few pulls of a bore snake.

Browning Buckmark broke the rear sight base and ejector in well under 10000 rounds. I found it quicker to buy the parts from Brownell's than deal with sending it back they were much cheaper to just buy than paying FedEx to send it back would have been
