My father will soon be going for a gun safety class before he applies for his permit. I have a couple of jobs pending, one of which is arrmed. Assuming I get the armed job, my permit will be upgraded allowing me to carry. This will let me get a 10 round gun like the full size 92FS that I've always wanted. My father will have to accept the Class B when he applies which will only allow 9 rounds and under and he can't carry. If I'm lucky enough to get my permit upgraded and buy a full size 92FS for my father -- can I just give it to him? I'm not sure how the inheritance laws work but I know it only applies to blood relatives. I'm hoping by giving him the gun under this clause he could reapply for the Class A and get it since being a blood relative it should apply. Anyone have any experience with transfering a gun for a family member?

I just wanted you to know that someone read your post. I am not a lawyer nor do I live in Mass. This would be governed by state law. I think you should consult a lawyer for this complicated question.

Inheritance laws are for when you die. You aren't planning to die, I hope.

Here in Texas there are no such complications. I could sell any gun to any adult Texas resident. Is your dad getting a permit just to own a gun? If so, it probably means that he has to only own guns permitted by the permit. I doubt if you are allowed to give him a gun he isn't allowed to buy.

Why doesn't your dad just take a class for the bigger gun.

No, we're all healthy -- thank Christ. :D I must have this wrong. If I had the Class A and gave my Dad a ten round gun, not covered under his permit -- could he get the permit upgraded to Target and Sporting if it were given as a gift? Clearly I couldn't sell it to him, but as a gift -- would it be the loophole he needs for an upgrade? In my city, first time applicants can only get a Class B -- upgraded after four years so the word from the Chief -- is don't even ask.:(

What brought this up was another post where a man was leaving to live in France and wanted to give his Berettas to his daughter's long time boyfriend. It didn't work though because he's not married to her and therefore not related.
