Hey yall i had a question bout the Inland M1 Carbine. ive done my research and i know theres no such thing as "matching numbers". and i also know that people make things match. my question is if my M1 carbine has a Inland barrel, a inland reciever, and a inland trigger group could it all be original or did somebody put it together. the patina on all the parts looks correct and even the serial number matches the date on the barrel (there is a graph from a M1 Carbine book that shows the serial number ranges next to the date they were made) my serial number is 635**** and the barrel was from 12-44.

Where'd the Inland come from? CMP?

Most likely, it was arsenal refinished at some time. Luckily enough with matching parts.

My CMP Inland has an Inland receiver with Winchester barrel.

if you got everything in the picture I think you did real good on the deal. As far as getting everything correct on the weapon you will need one of the small carbine books that will detail every little part that is correct to that serial number range. I would sugest just having fun with it. nice rifle by the way.

Crisby: Don't know where you live in NC, but if its anywhere near the Triad area, I'd be glad to have you over and assess your Inland for you, check the headspace for safety purposes, and if you'd like, show you a bit about disassembling.

Nearly every part on a carbine has a marking. We can catalog these markings and what manufacturer they originally came from.

The neat thing is all parts interchange and as mentioned above, many, indeed most, carbines have been rearsenaled at least once and during such times parts were exchanged. I have a bunch of Carbines and thats sorta "my thing". Love to field strip them just to see whats inside.

It's reasonable to assume that it has the correct trigger housing. The manuals will tell you what type should be in it. When they rebuilt carbines it wasn't unusual to reuse the the trigger housing, and Inland parts are among the most common. The rifle has updated parts so it has been rebuilt and probably refinished. Looks like you got a nice rifle and a fair deal.

If you got the magazines, bayonet, sheath, sling, and oiler with it, you did real well. Nice looking carbine. I can't wait to pick mine up.

Last nite i got bored so i tok the whole thing apart and wrote down all the markings.
