Tops on my "Gotta Have" list is a Benelli M4 or similar shotgun. Until such time as I can afford one comfortably, I thought I might fill the gap in my collection where a shotgun should be (I currently have none :().

Enter the Escort. Made by Hatsan in Turkey and imported by Legacy, I (and my gunsmith whose opinion I value greatly) was quite inpressed with the quality fit and finish of the Turkish gun. The action was butter smooth, nicely machined aircraft aluminum reciever and hard chrome lined 18" barrel and chamber and a 7+1 capacity. Capable of running 3" magnum shells as well. All this for the rock bottom price of 185 dollars.

Now I'm usually a you-get-what-you-pay-for type of guy, but this just seemed too good to pass up.

Here's my question: For anyone who has one of these or has any experience with them, will accessories for the Remington 870 fit them? They APPEAR to be similar enough, but without taking one of each apart to compare, I can't tell for sure. Specifically, I'm interested in installing a shoulder stock with pistol grip from ATI. They make one for the 870, but since it's not one of the big four, I'm not sure it'll fit.

Anyone know?

I'm not sure what the market is like in your area

but around here I've seen a slue of used but in nice shape 870's, Winchesters and Mossbergs for under that price. The Escort could be a good gun, but I know the 870 is. And I'm pretty sure all 870 asseccories will fit an 870.

Yep, I also am quite certain that all 870 accessories will fit an 870. Don't have many (actually ANY) used ones around here. The 870HD is hard to get. One Marine Magnum in the shop but it's price was making me hesitant.

I've already bought the Escort, just waiting for NICS to clear, but should it turn out to be a lemon, the 870MM will likely still be there.

So, we're back to the original question.

Anyone know if the Escort will accept 870 accessories?

k8ysv,

So, you've had this thing for over 2 months now, right? What's the word? Good or bad? I ask because my local gun shop has the Escort on sale for $144.50 right now. I almost bought it on the spot knowing nothing but decided to put another $150 against my layaway items.

The Escort I've handled was nicely put together and appeared very 870-like.

I however would recommend against the ATI stock as they're not built the best (funky looking and large). The Choate Mk V is a similar type stock and MUCH better quality.

anyone know of any place in the usa that sells the hatsan escort pistol grip and magazine extension?? or maybe a overseas place that will be willing to send over?

Escort

Around here we sometimes refer to the Escort as a poor mans Berreta. Same skinny barrel (european smaller bore than americam) chrome lined barrel, and close to same looks. Unlike the Nova pumps, the escort pump does not rattle when you handle it in the woods.(forearm rattle that is) The semi that I own has been trouble free for about 2500 rounds so far. We took this weapon to extrene test. It was "pressure tested" in the junkyard shooting clays out of an electric thrower. We would shoot it till the plastic got so hot it stunk, and if you were not careful you would burn your hand trying to load it. NEVER had any problem with it!!!!!!!!! This tourture test was my idea because of the price at the time I decided to find out what it was made of. I have had the pump for 3 years, love it also. I also own the 870's,500's,1100's, 1187,and the Browning A5-light and the Magnum as well as the Gold Hunter. I say this so no one will get the wrong idea about my review of the Escort. I am a dog hunter in the south, so I really like the price of a good semi that I can carry in the swamp rain or shine at less than half the price of a Remington. Also here in the south we have a lot uf turkey shoots, not the type ya'll have up north or in the midwest, but the escort with .665 will grt you a turkey or ham on the way home. Not everybody will wring a weapon out like we did, but I had to check it out. More later scchkedaddy:)

mrk I have been looking for the same pistol grip for months. I heard they do not sell them in the US. I have also heard the new escort shotguns come with them. I will let you know as soon and I can find a place that sells them. Here is a picture of it on there website. http://www.hatsan.com.tr/escort_acc_06.asp

Btw I have been contacting many different suppliers that make the shotgun pistol grips and have had no luck finding one that would fit. I will keep trying and plan to attend some local gun and knife shows also. Let me know if you have had any luck.

Why buy a Turkish gun for HD when you can get a proven US-made Mossberg for a few more bucks, with many accessories available, parts readily available, and excellent warranty support?

Or, an 870 is only a bit more than that, with a mag extension, even more available accessories, etc.

I can see the temptation to buy an off-brand Over/Under for $500 rather than $1500, but a pump gun for $185 rather than $210? Hell, for $240, a local store is now selling a Mossberg with 2 barrels for $240.

Doesn't add up, to me.

replacement barrels available?

I spoke w/ a rep from Legacy Arms and he told me that they do not have any replacement barrels available for the semi auto Escort model. He was not aware of anyone that made them. He then told me that there is a Federal ban on extended magazine tubes on foreign made imported shotguns limiting to 5 total capacity, although at some time in a catalog I have seen a model w/ an extended magazine tube available. Anyone know where I can get a shorter non ribbed barrel?

According to their website, Hatsan make shorter barrels and mag extensions for their pump and semi-auto shotguns but they may or may not offer them for sale separately as accessories.

They list a semi-auto combo package with a 20" slug barrel and a 28" vent ribbed multi-choke barrel but as accessories they only list rifled slug barrels available separately.

Of course, your legal situation may dictate what's available and what's not .... or the importer may determine for you what they will carry and what they won't. You could always try calling the importer and asking ... they maybe prepared to special order stuff for you.

In case you're interested the Hatsan website is

i would also like to know.... whats weird is that benelli has their mag extensions all over here in the US...

I forgot to mention that the Legacy rep told me that to get gun parts shipped from Europe you had to be an importer. Does anyone know if maybe some of the Charles Daly semi autos barrels will fit on the semi auto Escort? I really need to get a few different barrels for mine, a mag extension tube would be nice too.

The question was about finding accessories for a specific gun, and most people posted about how he should have bought a different gun or how a gun they own (different mfg.) performs/or is better.

Re: 870 accessories will fit an 870. I really hope that was a joke. Re: "For a few more bucks" you could have got this, and "a little bit more" you could have got that; obviously he didn't want to spend anymore money or he would have.

It's a home defense shotgun, how much crap do you need to put on it? Is your house really that dark or you don't know your way around it that you need a light? You know who should be in your house and who shouldn't. Are you really going to mistake your 4' 12y.o. for a 28y.o. burglar? You should give a verbal warning any way, so why use a flashlight and give away YOUR position? People shoot towards light. At least you would still have some cover in the dark, even if you spoke.

Extension tubes? If you can't drop a suspect in 5 rounds or less (again, we're not talking bullets) at 10-12 feet away, you've got bigger problems. Trying to swap accessories (rails, lights) is one thing, but trying to swap stocks and barrels? NOW, you should have bought a different gun.

I am a Deputy for the LA Co. Sheriff's Dept. and I own an Escort. Several other Deputies and myself took it to the range and it did an excellent job. It wasn't "pressure tested", but it never jammed and held it's own against any Beretta or Benelli at twice the price and of course Remington and Mossberg. It is solidly built and I would go to patrol with it without any reservation. It's a home defense gun and does what it is supposed to do, for a great price.

Seems one thing that nothing can kill is a year old thread, no matter how many gadgets they strap onto a weapon.
Was "870 assessories will fit an 870." a joke? Not by half. People ask this question every other day, "I bought a cheap copy of X, can I use assessories for X to make it into X?" If you want X, buy X. I'm a huge fan of English doubles, but I don't expect that adding anything to one of my 311's will make it anything like a Greener.
Lights on weapons I don't understand, I don't use my scope to identify a target why would I want to use a light attached to my weapon to do so. But I do use a light in the hand and it's a bright one. And I don't give verbal warnings, if you're in my house uninvited, you don't need me to tell you that I'm going to shoot you. The dog has probably already given you a pretty good impression anyway.

The Rem870 mag extension will fit the Legacy but usually requires shortening the mag tube about 0.040" to get everything to tighten completely with some extensions. Legacy is in the process of setting up a new parts supply warehouse in Oklahoma IIRC and parts such as barrels should be easier to get shortly. We can de-rib and turn down Legacy barrels, we work on a few and even use one as our demo gun. It's eaten about 10K rounds so far in the past year without any problems.

If you don't have any helpfull answers then don't say it.

Re: 870 accessories will fit an 870. I really hope that was a joke.
It was not a joke it was obviously a typo. I hope the guys that keep commenting on it are joking or they are a little slow.
Also, if I hear one more unoriginal guy say "if you can't put him down in 5 shots then you have bigger problems" I'll be a very happy man if I don't hear that cliche again.
Look, the guy that is looking for a magazine extension just wants to have one. I wouldn't have minded hearing the an answer to his question.

If you don't have anything to contribute other that to try and sound superior by hacking on someones question they maybe you should troll somewhere else.
Grow up....your know who you are.

The Legacy escort is a stripped-down H&K FP6, without the heat shield, the flip-up front sight and the ghost ring. Here is the escort:

... and here is the H&K FP6:

Being the same shotguns, all parts interchange. CDNN has a few accessories for the HK that fit the Escort, including:
Folding stock with pistol grip:

Mag extensions:

Even a carbon-fiber barrel with heatshield and flip-up sight:

If you install any of these on your Escort, make sure to post a picture.

Lots of good info here. I too am interested in the Escort, as Bass Pro has the semi-auto for sale at 269.00. Could be a good entry level turkey gun for the wife. Any opinions?

is there anyone online that have actually interchanged these parts?? that can give feedback? i'd really hate to purchase parts to find out it doesnt work

Tunk12- Being Law enforcement you should know that a verbal warning gives away your position as much as a flash light does.
I suggest you visit Front Sight Nevada.
