Ok. The guns and ammo budget has long been blown. I've only 2/5ths of what I wanted but hey, whatcha gonna do with a Liberal Socialist Democrat government about to kick into high gear http://www.thehighroad.org/images/smilies/banghead.gif Aside from more ammo, some more Hi Cap mags, and a couple of slings, what I really need now is to get better at using the guns.

What are some good recommendations for books and/or videos on how to shoot? I saw CMP has a couple. There's the Extreme Shooting DVDs that I've seen mixed reviews on. What else is there? I went to training in the Navy. That was more than 10 years ago and I hadn't shot a rifle after that 'til just last November. I want to get better and don't need a novice or beginner's video per se. That said, it never hurts to go back over the fundamentals. I'm looking for something that'll help me hone my skills. What have you seen or used? I know there's no substitute for practice. There's also no sense in practicing bad habits (I seem to have forgotten most of what I learned http://www.thehighroad.org/images/smilies/redface.gif ) either.

I've been looking on the Internet and so far, haven't found anything in the way of CMP or Appleseed around here either. So any advice y'all might have will be greatly appreciated.

Dunno how a swabbie like yourself will tolerate the high concentration of Gyrenes, but this former Army tanker found this video to be extremely informative regarding basic marksmanship and shooting positions:

More reference works from another former Marine, LtCol Jeff Cooper(praise be unto him):

Also, OPS trainer Andy Stanford:

I've taken classes with Gabe Suarez, and although the DVD is oriented towards the AK system, the basic principles of gun-handling and combative marksmanship can be applied to other rifles:

Thanks for your help. I'm gonna start with a Jim Owens DVD and book. I can't wait to get out there and shoot.

I'm making a list so if anyone else has any suggestions post 'em.

Smart move on the Jim Owen's books. :) I recommend his four book set cd or DVD.
