Any other THRers see the Youtube.com video of the guy saying you can quickly sharpen a knife or blade on a car door window?
It's a interesting concept but I'm not quite sure it could work for all carry or pocket knife blades.
I don't recall the video title but it's recent(Dec 2014).

Grandma sharpened her kitchen knives razor sharp on the rim of a pickle crock.

Thus, the second Ceramic Sharpening System.

The first one was a piece of sandstone or Novaculite rock somebody picked up on a hill side.

Anyway, I have not seen the vid.
But silica auto glass is much harder then knife steel.

And the edge of auto safety glass is sanded to break the sharp edges.
That leaves a frosted yet semi-rough edge still harder then knife steel.

So sure, you can use it to 'steel' a sharp knife up to a razor edge.

But, if the knife is really dull to start with, it might take you several hours to make it not dull.

We've discussed that trick several years ago here. I've been using it for quite a while.

It works nicely for a touch-up, as does the unglazed ring at the bottom of a typical ceramic coffee cup. It's too fine to sharpen a blade that's really gone dull though.
