This video shows a group with metal detectors, I can't tell if they're Russian soldiers or just a group of amateurs.

They recovered the bodies and armaments of a few soldiers. The weapons included a revolver, a sub machine gun, and rifle parts. You'll recognize the weapons.

Sad that these bodies were still out there and easily found, their gov't should have done more, earlier.

I've been following the Russian War Digger crew for a while.
Every time that one of their guys jumps into a hole in the ice and comes up with a stack of anti-tank mines or a fired 155 mm shell then I fully understand why no one has been poking around through those swamps... .

Have had a minute’s worth of experience in archaeology and have always been interested in battlefield salvage archaeology. Would love to go on a dig with one of the better/legitimate teams out there.

Sometimes these guys are legit and sometimes they are not. The black diggers operate illegally and without regard for any human remains they encounter. Just in it for rusty gold.

there are many others who are fighting a better fight. Government sanctioned and who care for remains when found. They try to return them to their home country if possible, but often the home country is no longer interested in repatriating the remains. In the case of Soviet soldiers, there was no real systematic troop identification-you wrote your name on a small piece of paper and put it in a capsule that you carried around with you. Nearly always, that capsule got lost. Most Soviet troops recovered are now unidentified forever.

There’s still small mountains of this stuff out there.
