So dad and have our SOT and got some suppressors in to try out. We got a Silencerco Hybrid 46M and a Octane 45 along with a couple 22lr suppressors, a 10/22 integrally suppressed barrel, and Sig and KG Made suppressors. I shot both 45 cal suppressors on my 45 Auto 1911 and they were both awfully loud, like painful to my ears loud. Maybe I'd need a stronger recoil spring??
Also tested out the Hybrid 46M on my M1 Garand and it was very interesting, it was definitely quieter, would be good for hunting when you are only going to fire a round or two at once. It wasn't ear splittingly loud like the 1911 was... Lots of gas to the face though and kind of odd cycling lol. I have an adjustable gas plug so maybe I should try to fiddle with it. However, I shot it without the suppressor and just used the ASR muzzle brake and it cycled flawlessly and had like no recoil lol, it was like a 5.56.
Then I tried the 46M with my new 5.56 16in rifle gas system build and it was stupid quiet lol. Like 22lr unsuppressed quiet.

Suppressor really makes 5.56 fun to shoot.
I have a ghost m for my hk 45 and its not very loud what weight bullet are you using?

Welcome to the addiction!

A stouter spring may help with the .45s. .45 cal is a big hole, so it's never gonna be 9mm quiet. But it shouldn't be that bothersome unless the loads are supersonic, especially with a 1911, as they have a fairly long lock time. If you find the Hybrid on a 5.56 "pleasant", which I do not at all, an Octane with .45 ball ammo in a 1911 should be better. The Hybrid is really pretty crappy on 5.56 when compared to decent 5.56 or .30 cal suppressors.

The M1 Garand and M1A are not good hosts. If you haven't adjusted the gas, do so before you bend an op rod, but know that no matter what, you're gonna get massive gas to the face and have to deal with mid-high 140s decibel levels. Other than the AR with Stoner gas system, no semi auto centerfire rifle is gonna be under 140 at shooter's ear if it's cycling.

.22s, 9mm pistols and manual action rifles are the most fun hosts for sure, especially lever guns in .38 spl, .32-20, etc. with subsonic loads. .350 legend is also a hoot, 250 gr. bullets at around 1,000 FPS, they sound like a pneumatic finish nailer with our 9" Accipiter .375.

Interesting... I was shooting 230gr ball and handloaded 200gr XTPs with a min charge of CFE Pistol so they should have been very subsonic... And, no I'm not exaggerating when I say that the 5.56 16in rifle gas was very good sounding to MY deaf self lol. I'm just simply stating what it sounded like to me. This is part of the reason why we got the SOT in the first place to hear for ourselves what different suppressors and hosts sound like. Of course, if it's uncomfortable to my deaf self, then its probably very uncomfortable to normal hearing people lol. Do you have a decibel rating with one of those fancy sound meters y'all have (I believe we actually talked about this before?) with the exact items I mentioned? Cause I'd be curious what y'alls findings were/are.
I also would like us to check out one or two things from y'all as well, as much as I'd love for dad and I to have infinite money, sadly we spent a fair bit getting the suppressors we already have lol. And I'm really wanting a SiCo Salvo for my Remington 870... Sigh....

No, we haven't ever metered the Octane. It's been awhile since I played with one, just recall it being a middle-of-the-road performer, not bad for it's size. My "calibrated ears" suggest it was in the high 130s dB range with ball ammo.

As for our cans, we have quite a few demos we can loan out to SOTs as a try-before-you-buy. No rental fee or anything, just cover the insured shipping and sign a document agreeing to check alignment with each host, use them with appropriate hosts & cartridges and return them when finished.

Wow that's actually pretty cool of y'all. I'll let dad know about it.
