Ordered a new Winchester 70 classic stainless in .375 H&H for a possible trip to AK. Intended mainly for bruin defense, I'd like the option to eventually hunt big game to 300 yards.
I believe there are no iron sights on this rifle, but it is drilled and tapped for a scope.
Recoil is stiff. For prone shooting or up hill shots, a scope with normal eye relief of 3.5 inches may bruise my head.
Heard much about scout mounting for rapid targeting. This is often suggested for dangerous close game.
Some suggest high mounts with iron sight visible below the scope.
My preference would always be for iron sights as an option for all my rifles in the event of a damaged scope.
What options are there for adding iron sights, with or without machining a dove tail front sight? Are rear sights mounted on such rifles using the existing drilled and tapped hole locations?
