Is $409 for a NIB stainless Marlin 1895 Guide Gun a good price?

Local retailer has the 1895GS in 45-70, stainless steel, for $409.32 new in box, with 4-5 day turnaround on the order. This seems low to me but the counter man assures me the listed price will be honored. What say you? Thanks.

I don't recall the most recent price I have seen at my dealer, but that sounds pretty good to me.

I have been looking at getting one of those for a long time now.

Looking at Walmart's special order catalog online, they have the 1895G (blue) for $419.87, so I would think $409 for stainless would be pretty nice if they honor it.

Snap that little baby up

Quiet handy to carry, but an earful if you aren't wearing protection.

That's a terrible price, why the dealer should be ashamed of himself. Tell me who it is so I can <ahem> straighten him out!! :D

(drat, now I gotta go order some 45/70 dies, 5744 powder, bullets...)

Sounds like a VERY good price.

My 1895 GS was an unexpected and much cherished gift from Elder Son. It is a superb piece of gear. I like the ghost ring aperture sight system. Mine is from AO, but I've heard that an obscure little outfit in Alaska does an excellent job with the concept as well. :D

Best,
Johnny

I paid $480 for my 1895GS in .45-70 a few weeks ago. I thought that was a pretty good deal. $409??!

Buy it and run!!
I have an 1895G that is my absolute favorite hunting rifle. I have a wickedly accurate Savage 116 in 30-06 that sits in the safe except for blasting long range ground hogs. My beautiful Mauser sporter in 30-06 gathers dust too. Even my old standby, my Enfield scout rifle hasn't seen the hunting fields this year. The 1895G carries well, handles perfectly and performs beautifully on game.
I have mine set up with a WWG trigger, ejector and ghost ring/fiber optic setup. I also have an XS leverscout mount and a Leupold Scout scope in Warne QD rings. It is the perfect hunting rifle in my estimation. I've had the scope on and off numerous times and it always retuns to zero within 1''.
Did I mention that I love my1895G?!!!
Oh yeah, it's very accurate also. 1 moa is very easy to obtain.

I think that is a heck of a good deal. I looked at them for years and finally picked up a really nice used one (blued) for not a whole lot less than that. It is probably my favorite gun. One of these days I am going to get a big list of parts from wildalaska. And, if I ever win the lottery I'll have my gun made into a co-pilot. BTW, I am not saying that WWG is too expensive for what they do, my gun budget just isn't all that big right now. It would definately be worth every penny.

Go get it and enjoy shooting it very, very frequently. :D
