for a larger guy (6'1 225 lbs) to bend the barrel or frame on a S&W 642 by carrying IWB behind hip or small of back while sitting in the car? That little snubbie barrel looks awful thin.
IMO the odds of that are a million to one!!! It may seem thin but sure should have a strength factor way beyond any conflict you can cause between body and seat . Let's say - all but impossible. Now your body and a solid surface like concrete - perhaps a different story but you'd be the bigger loser.
Most vulnerable part IMO is the crane - and so if the gun seriously stressed with cylinder out then just maybe possible to induce some distortion.
BTW - IWB to rear/SOB is potentially quite injurious in a fall - just something to bear in mind. I feel that anything carried at 5 o'clock plus to 6 region is not a nice thing to have ''cushion'' a fall!!
I have only ever carried OWB - and for me 3 - 3.30 is good. I reckon tho most folks tend to find 4 o'clock good for IWB - finding their individual ''sweet spot'' where pressure on bone is least.
Experiment because body types make quite a difference. If you have a good cover garment I recommend trying OWB as being for many more comfortable. I have that option and defy anyone to know I am carry a full size - SIG 226 ST!
I am of course describing strong side per right hander - for lefty reverse everything!
I use a Sparks VMII which is IWB.. I am more aware when the gun isn't there. Things just don't feel right..
You need to experiment to find sweet spot.. It will just feel right when you find it.
I carry a Govt size 1911 or the J-frame in the same spot..I guess to be precise, it would be 3:15 to 3:19 no wait, it may be 3:17 but that's on Tues and Sat.
