Is Walden-books Anti-Gun?

I was in Walden-books today and while my wife was looking I was trying to find a gun magazine. Out of hundreds of titles there was not one gun magazine of any title. There was however one hard core pron comic book for teens and countless soft core nude magazines. Makes you wonder.

In my experience, different regions (and individual stores) have different stocking policies. I don't recall being in a Walden that had NO gun magazines. Did you check the book section to see if they had any gun BOOKS? They usually close out a bunch of remaindered gun books, mostly British.

There were a few gun magazines at the local walden books last time I was there.

Probably supply/demand, they stock what sells best.

(BTW, they had no problem ordering Unintended Consequences for me when I asked them)

Walden and Borders don't carry 'em around here. But Books-a-Million, Wal-mart, and Giant (local grocery chain) do. More excuse for getting subscriptions anway!

i don't know about walden, but here B&N used to carry shotgun news (havn't checked that in a while, since dad gets it at food lion now) and i know they carry gun related books on their website, because i ordered some for christmas. i would think its more of supply/demand, then being anti gun.

They simply don't sell well, just like car mags. Book stores don't tend to sell magazines, most people are looky-loos or after subscription cards.

Man oh man. Is it me, or are people jumping to the "OMG THEY'RE ANTIS!" way quicker than in the past?

I mean, come on - because there weren't any gun mags on display, one truly wonders if that means that the company has a beef with them?

I can understand an idle curiosity, but like others have mentioned, you have to understand that they don't care what they sell, as long as it SELLS. Maybe they don't make enough on them to bother keeping them in stock. Or maybe they sell 'em so fast that they can't keep 'em on the shelf!

I don't mean to sound rude, but I've noticed more and more threads over time popping up, dealing with such-and-such company having such-and-such policy or not having a policy, and that possibly making them anti. Just seems a little much, is all.

Last time I was in half price books they had a half a shelf dedicated to

"Every Handgun is Aimed at You"

I spent about 5 minutes reading it thinking I could enjoy it on some level. I was wrong...:fire:

Around here, Wal*Mart has gun magazines, but they're back in the sporting goods department, not up front with the other magazines. Dunno about Walden Books, 'cause they're largely disappeared from this region, but ALL the Barnes & Nobles around here carry a wide assortment of gun magazines. And ... they must do it for the sales, because B&N is anti-gun. Their personnel policy won't allow employees to even have a gun in their locker for self-defense when they leave the store in the dead of night after ending the closing shift.

It could be the location perhaps... I know Walden Books is owned by Borders, and if Borders carries it, I don't see why Walden wouldn't.

Then again, Walden could be independently run. Who knows?? I work next to a Walden, I'll check it out and see if they have anything.

The Borders and Barnes & Nobles around here carry all sorts of gun magazines. They put them near the car mags and the motorcycle mags that seem to always have a tatooed chick on the cover. We used to have Waldenbooks, but they seem to have disappeared. Maybe that is because they were not giving their customer what they wanted.

Magazines on racks are a funny thing. I used to buy SWAT Magazine from the Magazine rack at my local Big Y Supermarket. Back in November, I was out of town (still in the same region) when the calendar issue came out. I went to the nearest Big Y- I knew they would have it since the Big Y at home has it. Turns out I was wrong. That Big Y had quite a few bridal magazines (the Big Y at home had a couple titles of those), and a lot less of the sports (not as many titles/ shop (maybe 1 title)/ gun (none) magazines than the store I usualy frequent. It probably has to do with what sells locally, I guess....

Anyhow, know I subscribe, get my issues sooner and save about 50% off the cover price;)

Both the Barnes & Nobel and Borders by me carry lots of gun mags.
In fact, the new Borders, (they built a new one across the street from the B&N), actually has a pretty good selection of magazines and books.
I've taken to getting Shotgun News there. I figure if no one buys 'em, they won't carry 'em.

ALL of the Borders and Barnes & Nobles that I've seen in the Cleveland/Akron area sell gun magazines and books. I go to the B&N at Crocker Park in Westlake to buy Smallarms Review. The Borders around the corner sells SGN, Combat Handguns and the like.

There used to be a store in Rocky River called Liberty Books. They were apparently part of a chain out of Columbus. They sold Smallarms Review AND Gun Week! They started doing wacky things like getting Gun Week every 2-3 weeks, and not getting New York Review of Books (but still getting Smallarms Review!). When I got back from Christmas vacation in Chicago, they had NO magazines at all. They've since closed completely. Now I have nowhere to buy Gun Week, and I hate to subscribe to things!

The Kroger near me carries at least 10 different gun mags. And their rack isn't that big.

:D

I would guess they stock what sells like most other businesses.

Last night I was at the local Schnucks grocery store. They had a small selection of gun mags in the magazine aisle. Maybe a dozen. I don't buy gun mags very often, but I noticed them as I walked by (they are next to the floral department).

I don't sell guns. Does that make me anti?

Just because someone doesn't actively support you doesn't mean they're trying to stop you.
