My son just purchased the Lyman T-Mag starter kit and he's very happy with everything except the Lyman 1000 electronic scale. It seems to wander about 0.2gr at 5.0gr despite us eliminating all the known causes we can read about on the internet. According to him, it wanders even more in the 30gr range used on rifle loads.

Has anyone had similar experience with the Lyman electronic scales?

Mine did that too and it got real frustrating real quick.

Thats why i bought the chargemaster. However!, I found out after i spent 350.00 on the new scale, that .05 cents fixed the problem for me.

I superglued a nickel to the bottom of the powder pan. the extra weight helped keep it from wandering. calibrate zero and viola no more drift.
I still have to make sure its warmed up for at least 10-15 minutes before i use it.

Seems odd that even in the 30 grain range its still wandering though. So im not sure the extra weight trick will help.

but its worth a shot.

This is one of my great mysteries. I've used electronic balances since Ainsworth brought one out in the early '7s, I think.
I have never had a balance drift, wander, or whatever.
I have the Lyman 1000 and it has been perfect.
I would call Lyman and ask them.
Just FYI:
1) balance should not be on workbench with press
2) balance must be kept out of dusty or oily areas or areas where aerosols are used and covered when not in use
3) electronic balances should warm up for 30 minutes before use.
4) Balance beams must be stored with beam off the balance and covered to protect from dirt, dust, oil, etc.
5) Any air flow will affect the balance-use a breeze shield of some kind
