Let's get to the straight facts. What will our new President do to our gun rights in a year or so from now?

I've heard all the outrageous gun rumors, but what practical laws you guys think will be passed? Will we be totally denied of gun ownership, will the gun industry increase the price of their products or will old bans be revived? Thoughts please.

Just trying to get to the truth without the "end of the world" factor.

Yes, It would appear we are becoming our own worst enemy with this stuff.

Y'know this has been asked several times already and the answer isn't going to change.

We don't know.

Matter of fact, how is that even possible to know when no one can predict the future with any certainty?

What will happen when is what gambling is all about, and at least there are some solid rules there. What a single politician will do is much "diceyer" than that. Add a whole gaggle of politicians in and you have to go to chaos theory just to guess at an outcome. And if that's not unpredictable enough, toss in random events to perturb those politicians and you might as well toss darts with a blindfold on.

So here are the choices.

Permanent AWB by Feb. 1, 2009.

Permanent AWB by Feb. 1, 2010.

Permanent AWB by Feb. 1, 2011.

No AWB.

Somewhere in the range of permanent AWB by Feb. 1, 2009 and No AWB ever (inclusive of the endpoints) is the future.

The "truth" is that gunowners need to stop inciting panic and start working to ensure their rights.

The way I see it, count on clever new interpretations of ATF regulations from the new Attorney General and ATF director, and executive orders ending import of firearms, parts and ammunition from certain countries.

As far as Congress goes, I'm sure the usual suspects are rubbing their hands with glee at the prospect of a new AW bill gaining traction in both houses. Whether they can garner enough votes to pass it, though, is a different story - the world didn't end when the last one went away, and the Democrats still remember the buttwhipping the voters gave them for it in 1994.

The truth is that the primary objective of all incumbent politicians is to win re-election. With a few exceptions (e.g., Ted Kennedy), even Democrat politicians are very sensitive to voter's preferences. And there are more than a few gun owning Democrats out there.

The best thing we can do is to regularly write our congressman with pro 2nd amendment content. (Maybe supplement our letters with letters under a pseudonym?)

That kind of stuff catches their attention.
