It took a Hi Power to get me to like .40

I've never been able to tolerate the .40 in any handgun I've tried. Well I got a BHP Practical this weekend in .40, and I've finally found one in which I enjoy shooting the .40. The Practical is super!

Thanks. My HP collection now numbers three. I have the Standard, an old Belgian, and the .40 Practical.
It seems to me at the gun shows in particular, HPs or their clones and Stars are just about the only cocked and locked style 9mm's available. That's a shame. I wish there were more.

My introduction to the .40 S&W cartridge was through shooting my friend's BHP chambered in that round. It was definitely a positive experience. Since then I have shot the .40 S&W in a host of other designs. While I like the round, I think many can find its perceived recoil more challenging in a polymer framed pistol than a nice, heavy, all steel gun.

Then again, the first semi-auto that I ever held and really liked the feel of was a used Hi-Power, so maybe I'm just biased...

I'm definitely biased toward HPs, because I tried a Beretta 96 last year and did not like it either.

I've never been a big fan of .40, but my FN Hi-Power makes the caliber palatable. It's a well-balanced and terrifically ergonomic gun, and by far the most accurate and pleasant shooting .40 I've ever owned or fired.
