The more I hung around here and viewed these 2 guys posts , the more I started thinking about the simpler things..... starting collecting a few slip joints and lockbacks....even started shooting the 22's again !

I blame you two ( actually I would like to thank you both ! ).

Just got this one recently , Queen Mtn Man in D2. Its a bit bigger than the other traditional style folders I got lately like a Case Seahorse Whittle , Case toothpick , Lone Wolf Loveless City Knife.... but I like it.

Even had to make a sheath for it today... used 9/10 oz leather and didnt come out as nice as I wanted , so I started another from 5 oz leather tonight.

You can thank SM.
He's expanded my vision and I've only parroted his wisdom.
The only point of disagreement between us is on slip joints. I just can't advocate them as anything except collectible knives instead of users. (Still can't see getting rid of my small Sebenza for a "custom" Old Hickory paring knife, though.;))

took me awhile to get comfy using a slippy , this lockback is solid. ( Doesnt mean my Strider WP or AR arent somewhere on my person though ;) )

Practical, not tactical?

Sure looks ol'-timey. Not tacticool at all, just useful. The leatherwork superb. Now once you have a few years patina on the steel and the bone worn smooth...

Hi,

Very nice.

What did you use to stitch the leatherwork? Just curious as I'm starting to keep an eye open for a leather-suitable sewing machine to try my hand making some holsters and such.

I hand stitch... use an overstitch wheel to mark where I want the holes to be , then use an awl and hand punch the holes , stitching is done with 2 needles ( #0 size ) and Barbour's Linew Sinew . I have hand sewn up to 5 pieces of 9/10 oz leather...a suitable machine that will stitch consistantly thru thick leather will run ya well over $2500. THe ones at tandy are ok for low production , they run about $1400.
I find the 2 needle saddle stitch , while time consuming , pretty darn relaxing.
