I've had my SAR-1 for a while now (as it was the first gun I ever purchased), and have put an untold number of rounds through it (as the first gun, it too had to endure changes in cleaning philosophies). Lately, it's had a problem that has rendered it unfireable; the pin that holds the trigger in place has come loose from the reciever on the right side. I tried JB Weld to keep it in, and while it worked for a little bit, the pin still came out again.

Is there something I can do, or do I need to take the AK to a gunsmith? I really miss shooting the little thing.

Thanks

Strip it down and look into the reciever on the left side and check to see if the "Shepherds crook" is still there. The bent piece of wire holds two different pins in and it's possible the trigger pin may have slipped loose.

If the wire did slip out of the groove on the trigger pin, it should be relatively simple to pry the wire back up a bit and push the pin back in, then let the wire settle back into the groove on the pin.

If, later on, you have the same trouble, you may want to look over the pin to see if its damaged somehow, and/or look into the replacement part for the "Shepherds crook" made by Red Star Arms.

Here's a close up of what to look for:

the sar-1 has some cheap parts in it. mine started slam firing after about 2500-3000 rds. gunsmith suggested new fire control parts and that woks well. now i have to replace the barrel soon 'cause the rifling is darn near shot out. those fire control groups are cheap and the gunsmith labor shouldn't be all that much for an easy job like that. i say get the best parts kit you can and have a 'smith install it.

The...rifling is shot out? After how many rounds? That sounds very odd, unless you state a number with a lot of zeros.
