Hello,
I have a Iver Johnson champion single shot shotgun that is missing the forend stock, is it safe to fire in this condition? It does have a tight lockup.
Also, does this gun have damascus steel barrels? I'm almost positive it doesn't but I want to make sure.
Thanks!

Once you figure out if it is twist steel barrel, figure out chamber length. In that time frame there were still some shorter shell lengths on the market before everybody standardized to 2-3/4

According to the blue book there are multiple variations of the Champion Series made between 1880 and 1922. They mostly all came with plain twist barrels and some with "Browned Barrels", and I have no idea what that means. Maybe someone will post in and explain that term. Apparently all come in 2 3/4 chambers as no mention of any chamber length is listed You can look in the Blue Book and nail down which model you have.

I say that if there is any doubt, even the slightest, whether a gun is safe to shoot, DON'T SHOOT IT.
