Iver Johnson--Model 55

I looked through the search to no avail. Can anyone give me info. about Iver Johnson Model 55, 22 cal., 8 shot revolver? I found one at a pawn shop. There is no blueing, a pair of thumb rest grips, and everthing seems to be working. The price is quite low. Is it worth buying? Thanks

The Iver Johnson Model 55-5A in .32 S&W Long...

is being advertised on both the Gunbroker and Gunsamerica for $89.00 + shipping. It looks af if it is in decent shape, but it has been refinished. If I had the funds, I'd buy it myself!

Your Iver Johnson Model 55 is an inexpensive little revolver that is a step above the so-called "Saturday Night Specials" Some are quite reliable, some aren't. In this case the old saying applies, "Ya put your money down and ya takes yer chances". If they are in good condition, these little pieces can be a great deal of fun. Remember this model of revolver is the one that was used to shoot Robert Kennedy. (I believe that that particular model was the 55-5A chambered in .32 S&W Long).

I think the Kennedy revolver was in 22lr and is also called the cadet. I remember reading once Sirhan Sirhan had practiced shooting it at an outdoor range in the LA area (SGVGC I think for those that know of it!) and in the investigation that the authorities had to comb through all that brass looking for the ones that matched his revolver!

You are, indeed, correct sir! Don't tell me that the .22 l.r. isn't efficient at killing someone! One must rememer, that back in "the internal conflict" the anemic .31 caliber black powder loads put many a man "in the ground".
