My lovely wife currently car carries her J frame S&W in a zippered soft case in glove compartment. This is a legal method in our state, but I have questions:

1. Will the soft cloth in the zippered case trap moisture and be a problem in the long run?

2. Please suggest a holster for off-the-belt carry for her in the glove compartment and/or purse carry where it might get jossled around some. Goal here is to get trigger covered in proper material and a product that firearm will not easily slide out of. The zippered range case doesn't offer any flexibility other than the car or the range.

Thanks in advance. As for the wisdom of any of these methods, this what she is going to do, so I want her to do this as safely as possible.

While I have heard the debates over keeping a loaded firearm in this manner, anyone who suggests I try to suggest to my spouse that she do something different by appealing to her adult sense of logic is obviously not married. :banghead:

^^^ What does that have to do with anything? It wasn't the question.

As to the matter at hand...

1. I don't expect the case would have any more or less effect than if the gun was just in the glove box without it. You/she should probably clean and lube it once or twice a month anyway. In that time frame, I don't think there's anything to be concerned about either way (case/no case).

2. Off the top of my head I'm thinking an Uncle Mikes pocket holster. Cheap and effective.

EDIT: A quick search turned up this which might be helpful...

Are you telling us you can carry a loaded handgun in your glove box but not on your person in your state?
If you don't have a permit to carry, yes. Have to have permit to carry on person. Glove compartment or console is legal with or without permit.

Thanks Thern. I'll check into some of those.
