The interesting thing about these "high-end" gun auctions is if you follow all of them (Julia, Rock Island, Martin, etc.) after awhile you start seeing the same guns being bought and sold. This "churning" is common with "investor grade" firearms and has nothing to do with collecting or, for that matter, firearms.
They are just another commodity like stocks and bonds that are traded for profit. (Not that I wouldn't mind owning a few.)
